He is Scottish - maybe 'Britishness' would have been better expression. ;)

LIDL - We saw it, but we tried to keep our best players, nothing wrong with that.
Losing Cesc and Nasri was a big blow to us, they are not easily replaceable.

Why didn't he say the same about Suarez then, who was on "everyone's list after the world cup"

Because nobody was making a move for Suarez.

I hate to agree with Lidls, but it's hard to see fault with that.

Oh, come on, let's get real here. I'm not saying Hodgson would have been a raving success - we'll never know, now. However, he was ****ed from day one. Dalglish wanted the job, and let everybody know about it. The fans KNEW Dalglish wanted the job, and they, in their blindness to his faults as a manager, wanted him. As PNP said, You'll never walk alone. Oh really? - In fact, it's difficult to walk at all, with all those knives stuck in your back.

Exactly. Had Wenger not deluded himself into thinking they would stay, Arsenal would have had adequate time to reinvest in some far more suitable replacements; instead of the last minute panic buys they were forced into.
Indeed, if all reports are anything to go by, Wenger would have forsaken the £25mm and kept Nasri to the final year of his contract. Probably in the naive belief that he could persuade the devious little **** to sign another one. Fortunately, for Arsenal, wiser heads seem to have prevailed.

Why do you think only two managers in our history have been disliked in our history, the other one was disliked for selling his story to the s*n!!

Only two managers in your history?
Leaving aside Roy Evans, can you honestly say how popular George Patterson was, for example?

    Roy Evans wasn't disliked?

    I meant since Shankly.

I should have thought that I'd already answered that question. Once the fans became aware that St Kenny wanted the job - but had not been given it, then Hodgson was resented from day one. It's a tough enough job as it is, without having to go to the bathroom several times a day, to find out how many new knives you've got stuck in your back!

    You'd be surprised.
People were betting on the end of the world at the recent 'Rapture' that was incorrectly predicted in May.

Anyone that believes a prophecy that's strictly ruled out by their own religion is an idiot though, Piskie.

Just goes to show that P.T. Barnums' estimate of "one born every minute" was probably a gross underestimate!

While there's a real chance age will trip Chelsea up, in terms of talent and money for the January transfer window, they should be third, fourth at the worst. Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal look closer. I'd take Spurs squad narrowly over Liverpool, and Liverpool's, not quite so narrowly, over Arsenal's. But between no European football and a bigger budget for transfers, I'd make Liverpool a slight favorite over Spurs and Arsenal, in that order.

It reminds me of a task that an old economics tutor of mine gave in a lecture: Pick an integer between 0 and 100 and the closest to two thirds of the average wins a bye from the next test.

Most people should realise quickly that the logical answer is 0 but depending on how much faith you have in the rest of the class you may have chosen a higher number. However 5 students picked a number over 66 <doh>

Roy stuck the knives in his own back.

Horrendous 2 banks of 4, park the bus on our 18 and hoof to Torres in the centrecircle tactics coupled with press conferences that served little purpose other than to demotivate the players and demoralise the supporters were what doomed him. He was incomprehensively rubbish and tried to force a system on us that ignored all our strengths and played to all our weaknesses.

He either holds or was on course to hold nearly every single 'worst since 1950-something' record at the club by his own doing. With little to no injury problems as well.

Don't make excuses for him, he doesn't deserve it.

He was screwed before he started though, Redconn.
All the behind the scenes rubbish saw to that and I don't think that certain powerful members of your squad helped him, either.

I agree he was screwed before he started, but it was because he had a long established record of never winning away matches, not winning trophies and failing at bigger clubs. IMO you're taking a small issue and pretending it's the only issue.
