ah, the traditional English reserve about voting habits, 'between me and the ballot box' etc. Never understood it.

I just reflected your comment back at you. It's been great that nobody has belittled anybody's opinion on this thread, so didn't want to see that creep in...

A very clever way of looking at each party's policies, however, if you took them on face value alone they all have elements that you'd agree with until you look at how they'd be paid for and therein lies the problem.

For example, 300,000 new homes? Do me a favour! Some of these policies are from la-la land. If it were costed and fitted in with a budget that wouldn't have ridiculous implications for the economy that would be great, but it won't happen and that was cruelly exposed in a radio interview.

I came out just where I expected between two parties so I'll just have to go with who I feel is the most realistic prospect of doing what they say. Although neither have a prayer in my constituency...

Apparently it's national cleavage day..... I'll vote for any party that wants to be actively promoting the displaying of cleavage. What a thing to be happening on my birthday...... Happy birthday to me!!!!!! ;)

Which one? I don't mind saying... I was Green (with 25% labour). They've got a **** party leader, but the leader of a party is basically a front man (or woman). Policies aren't made by them.

I think the difference for me is how the policies are worded. Some are really vague with no targets and terms like "we will try to..", etc.

I did - I'm not too subtle in my views on BBC upper management. I don't include most of the artists. There's talent there.

Chaz is right in general about the belittlement point, but I think this thread is proceeding with plenty of respect by posters, if tinged with vexation at the choices open to us as voters

The thought of the SNP and the greens holding the balance of power fills me with horror.
Surely that possibility alone should encourage people to get out and vote.

Labour, like the Tories, is an 'austerity' party. In terms of policy they have more in common with the Tories than they do with the SNP or Greens. If you are scared of the SNP vote Labour in the hope that they get an absolute majority (can't see the Tories managing this). The real problem is the collapse of the Lib Dems, now not likely to be a necessary partner in any coalition and a useful brake on the loonier free market elements of the Tories and public service freaks of Labour.

It's virtually certain that no party will get an overall majority, so voting Labour to keep out the nationalists in Scotland would be a lemming's approach - but nice try, Stan :emoticon-0140-rofl:

A week is a long time in politics, but, the way the polls are currently running, it's hard to see anything other than a minority Labour government. As an old-fashioned Labour man, I rather like the idea of the SNP pushing this MOR Labour leadership towards some more radical solutions.

A far left party, who would do anything to break up thw UK having a say on what happens south of the border is a constitutional nightmare.
The two fishes Sturgeon and Salmon will be playing red Ed a treat.
    I may emigrate!

I would like to see a left-leaning government, Col - we haven't had one since the the 70s. I would hate to think that you would be driven to emigrate, but, if you do, would you be sure to take with you all the 'celebs' that say they will have to go if Labour get in - Jim Davidson, Frank Bruno et al.

Katie Hopkins has said she will **** off if Labour win. That should be a good enough reason to vote for them.

She could take Myleene Klass with her.

An Old Labour approach can have its merits when countering the worst excesses of the far right. We probably wouldn't have a minimum wage without it, and personally I'm much in favour of working people being paid a decent wage. But at the moment, as a result of 5 tough years, we're doing better economically than virtually any other country in Europe. France is a basket case with their current socialist government. London is now the 5 the biggest French city. Refugees can't pass through Italy and France fast enough to jump on a lorry to get here. Why, if we're doing so badly?

If Labour have to rely on the SNP to get their legislation through, the price the Scots will exact will be based entirely on self interest. Whatever they may say, they believe they owe no duty to the rest of the UK, indeed that is their whole ethos.
