Adam Yates in yellow as Alaphilippe is handed a 20 second penalty for receiving a drinks bottle inside 20k to go Roglic now in second spot, and keep an eye on Pogacar in third.
Been struggling to watch cycling since my bike was pinched, just makes me feel sh1t that I can't ride Looking into getting a new one though
Got rid of my bike earlier this year. I have been looking around for a new one, then my employers sign up for some daft government scheme whereby if the employer lends cash to an employee to buy a bike then the cost is spread over twelve months and taken from the employees wages, before tax. There is a limit of £1k, so if I buy a bike for £1k then it will cost me about £550, as I pay the £1k back to my employer before tax from my wages. Sounds like a decent deal to me, if I go over the £1k then I fund that part myself.
Just had 3 cracking days of TdF in a row but had to feel for Hirshi today after missing out by a foot after all that time on his own . Thought Bernal looked a bit better today but Ineos as a team look off the pace by some way .
First day in new job today. If I still had a bike it would be quite a nice ride there and back Looking at some options for a new one still. Found two great options for around £1000 ... a Wilier and an Argon 18, both full carbon with a good Shimano group on them (105 if you’re into that) and fairly ok Shimano wheels which I’d change and use for bad weather. Also saw the Wilier somewhere as frame and group only so would just need wheels and works out better value
CAAD13. got a CAAD12 frame only in Dec and ride all summer on it, fantastic. Now just lashed out on a 13 disc for winter(105) and it’s a more comfortable ride than any carbon I have had but doesn’t handle as well as the 12. will never go back to carbon.
Yeah, good bikes those if you're after alloy. I've heard the Trek Domane AL 5 is worth a look as well. I'd have an alloy if the weight was alright and it had a nice set of wheels on it. What turned you off carbon?
I had a second hand Trek Emonda, then “Upgraded” to a Planet X RT80 about 5 years ago. Just budget carbon but for a £1000 you didn’t get a better spec. I then late last summer tried a friends CAAD10, my god it was like chalk and cheese. Sharp, crisp handling and with carbon bars/seat post more comfortable than carbon. So managed to pick up a CAAD 12 in my size and built up with some 50mm carbon wheels. don’t think I would go back to carbon, plus if I crash it’s Less likely to be a bike I can’t ride. think mine is 7.5kg getting the frame that’s best for you is The most important, but looking sharp is also key.
That's very much light enough. Sounds like a sweet ride. I have been considering a PX (Pro Carbon, EC130 aero bike) but I've heard some talk that they're a bit soft and flex under big efforts and when climbing, also that the handling's slightly mushy and not the sharpest. Although I agree the spec on those bikes is really good, especially at that price. Although they are using mass produced Chinese carbon moulds, not so different to the big brands whose bikes all come out of Chinese factories, but maybe those brands do have more input into the design and final quality. Obviously the prices a lot charge are simply not justified, it's all marketing and hype. Those PX frames also look good in matte black with minimal logos. Also agree that alloy is a better bet for durability and less likely to be unrideable if you do crash. I'm just researching at the moment but it seems alloy bikes have come on from what they had been and are lighter and stiffer than ever, and if you get an alloy frame with good specs and good wheels they are proper machines. I know what I'm after, a stiff, compliant, racey frame in a dark stealthy colour (black, grey, blue or something) that's pretty light and has 105 or better on it and decent finishing kit that's somewhat future proof. The wheels can be changed easily so not too fussed what it may come with, I do want to try and keep it in the 7kg range.
The 7kg range is very specific. Will need to be rim break and a more top end frame. the EC frame from Planet X gets good reviews, but as an all round machine is something it isn’t-not a bike for climbing. Planet X are open mould/generic frames. Not usin FM top end carbon like major brands, the get less stiff over time. Take a look at Decathlon bikes also. You have 12 months to return if unhappy and a lifetime frame guarantee
