That's an interesting statement. It's almost like you're suggesting in the last couple of weeks the name of the ladies team has changed. Now of course, that would perfectly suit your argument wouldn't it? Oh a month ago? No? Odd.

It's not quite how it is though, is it?

    Not even close in fact.

Also, how do you know what Dr Allam says privately? Adding speculation now to your "truth massaging"? Or are you now bessies with him? You read it online or did you hear it from someone who knows someone who spoke to him?

This is really now worse than the other poll. Not only is this one totally biased to return one result, it serves no purpose other than to act as a platform for people to tell half truths and make stuff up.

Remind me again why it hasn't been closed like the other one? Oh yeah, OLM made it and it suits the agenda of some of our mods. Nice evenhandedness there fellas. </irony>

It's further back than that even.

Oh wait, they've been planning this in secret for months. They destroyed the history of the Ladies. Etc etc.

I'm sure there were posts before the 2nd June complaining about the change of name. I seem to recall some 'in the know' saying it was nonsense and will never happen.

    ****Edit****

A quick google confirms it was an issue at the FLAG meeting on Star Wars Day.

    http://tigerchat.org/flag-minutes-saturday-4th-may/

"AOB – name change. The only time things turned somewhat acrimonious. LM led on this, with support from me, citing our poll (would you support changing the club’s name from Hull City AFC to Hull Tigers? Yes 4 votes, No, 68 votes.) NT a bit nettled by this, said we wouldn’t be changing the name of the club, it would remain Hull City. We pointed out we were Hull City AFC. He said it was only the business side of the club that was changing, the badge remained the same, we pointed out we had walked into the stadium under a sign saying Hull City Tigers. NT made it clear they would do as they liked with this, as it was a business decision. I pointed out that if he was going to make changes like this without informing fans groups, then he would find every meeting short-circuited by this sort of argument, so he ought to get used to explaining this sort of decision to fans. NT glowered a bit and said ‘We are Hull City. We are Tigers.’ We pointed out what was wrong with that and bickered on for a while."

Tell the 'Deniers' all you like, DMD - it isn't getting through! They don't accept that Assem intends to drop the word 'City' from the Club name (i.e. we will become Hull Tigers). They bluster on that they will still refer to City and Tigers, but that isn't the point. Is it now?

You'd think if the rebrand was such a good idea, they'd be able to show that with facts, figures and real world examples, instead of just making misleading and contradictory statements, such as the one above and the ones dished out on interviews.

Bloody hell OLM you have rattled some cages here but your point is right the Hull City Tigers is a stop gap to the Hull Tigers and I personally do not like this so I voted for Hull City.

Now can anyone tell me or explain the weird goings on regarding the magnet badge crest which alters from Amber to Watford Yellow? More conspiracy theories?

It's because it's 'merely' a personal matter for AA - he's got a beef with Hull City Council and is determined to get his own back. Hence dropping the word 'City' from the club name. But to the Deniers' that's quite OK - they'll just carry on calling the club 'City' and all will be well......

......and new fans will come in and call us 'Tigers'.

    * ?

And it's AA who needs to 'get a grip'. He should cease to be so petty-minded. (It was obvious in the Peter Levy interview just what disdain he had for any view not held by him).

    Tigertube match reports...

    4 August 2013 - HULL CITY LADIES 4 BEDFORD LADIES 0

25 August - Wetherby Athletic Ladies 1 Hull Tigers Ladies 6

The team are still on the FA website as Hull City Ladies and played every game last season as Hull City Ladies.

The name on the Twitter site is Hull Tigers Ladies, but the Twitter tag is @HullCityLadies. You can change your Twitter name, but if you want a different Twitter tag, you need to start a new account. Unless anyone has evidence to the contrary, I think this is a change for this season.

I'm not best mates with Assem, but I do know people who are, but this is somewhat academic as he's already said exactly the same things publicly.

The other poll is still open, it hasn't been closed and you owe the mods an apology. <ok>

I think this goes beyond whether people like the name or not. If changing the club name was such a good and innovative idea then I struggle to see why the club wasn't more overt on proceedings with more consultation with supporters. The idea will still have been divisive amongst us but at least the club will have been clear on their intentions. In addition, why say the name change isn't happening when it is? Again, that is another thing that has got up people's backs and this is not a route I'd expect the club to take when releasing a 'fantastic' idea to take the club further. The Allams may not have heard what they wanted to hear, but at least if they were clear and concise with their plans nobody could have a go at them about that. Even when people tell you what you don't want to hear, it's no good burying your head in the sand and carrying on with it anyway.

In addition, simply changing our name won't raise our profile abroad. The club needs to become established in the top flight and achieve things on the field. I fail to see how changing our name can result in that. We have to earn the support abroad, it won't just arrive like that. People ultimately want to follow a winning team, not one with an exciting name. To the owner's credit, we have bought well this summer and look to have a team that can stay in the top flight. For me, this is where their attention on building the club's profile should be based.

I am grateful to the Allams for what they have done and because of their work in saving the club we have a bright future ahead of us in the Premier League. We have arguably our best manager and squad ever and it would have been difficult to have foreseen this when the Allams arrived on the scene only 3 years ago. However, that doesn't mean that people should just sit back and accept any idea. People will judge things on its merits and this should not change just because it is the Allams. Unfortunately, the benefits of this idea remain greatly unconvincing in my opinion. This doesn't discredit the work the Allams have done before, this is merely my view of the matter.

There is some suggestion that a couple of companies (Tiger Insurance?) have expressed interest, and that this is because of the name change. Rubbish. We've always been "The Tigers", so in what sense does AA's messing about make any difference?

Tigers is our nickname, not the official name. Just like i knew someone with the unfortunate nickname "chink eye", but i very much doubt that's on his birth certificate. There's a massive difference.

If they want to brand something brand "the Tigers" but leave the official title alone.

It's misguided by Allam because no bugger in Asia will touch our stuff. We need to be successful on the pitch for that to happen, and we're not.

If our name changes will the railway sign have to come down from above the tunnel?

Also , are there any fit birds in this female City team? Or are they all butch types?

You couldn't be more wrong with your statement "no bugger in Asia will touch our stuff".

There are huge commercial opportunities for us opening up in the Far East simply because we are in the Premier League that, if marketed correctly, could bring in a fortune.

But when we're competing against the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal over there it's going to take more than just changing our name to gain attention over there. Like I said in my previous post, you have to earn recognition through success. It's slightly patronising to think that changing the club name will make people in Asia take notice of us and follow us.

It could, as the Tiger is revered as a holy creature over in the Far East. Or something like that.

Simply being in the PL isn't enough though. Did Bradford get more fans over there? Did Swindon, Oldham or Blackpool? Simply being there isn't enough. We have to establish ourselves as a top flight team and only through sustained success will be ever be recognised as a global brand.

We signed 3 Egyptian players last season and became one of the biggest supported clubs in Egypt. This was all before we went through this name change malarkey. Why aren't we saturating that market? Maybe set up a Tiger leisure shop in Sharm El Sheik or something (once the political stuff has died down). If our owners are from Egypt and we have Egyptian players, then surely that's the market we should be aiming at, not the Far East? I know there are more people in that region, but even so, we're going to have to do something spectacular for people to sit up and take notice. Maybe start taking players on trial from smaller nations to drum up interest. Or do what some clubs do and have a feeder team in the area (Man U have Nagoya in Japan, Chelsea have some connection to Indonesia and so on). Maybe we could take a player from the Kingdom of Brunei on trial and make a big deal about it. That'll get the shirt sales up.

The only reason I can see that would benefit AA is that, now being in control of a PL club, he can sell the club on to a rich foregin benefactor and make a profit. He'll then label it his 'greatest gift' and we'll carry him down the street like a hero. That's how he dreamed it anyway.

But that doesn't mean a name change is necessary - you just put more emphasis on our nickname and colours over there. It doesn't require changing the name.
