Suggesting that those who don't vote are one way or the other is a piss poor argument, this poll has received more votes than any other poll on this board that I can remember, but I'm more than happy run HT's poll, so long as it's a simple 'what do you want to be called', with Hull City, Hull City Tigers, Hull Tigers and don't mind as the options. Okay?
Sorry, but that has to be the daftest of all posts, regardless of viewpoint. You appear to be saying that you are happy to have a crap name for your club that satisfies the Eastern sensitivities, but is clumsy to Western sensitivities, which, just in case you have not noticed, is where this football club is. It would appear, if I take your view to it's obvious conclusion, that you should be supporting one of the big clubs, such as Manchester United (it's more easily commutable from Hull than Hull is for many of us) as you clearly have no loyalty to anything other than the bottom line and results. Where you really brought up to think that is what supporting a team is all about or have you made that massive step-forward yourself?
What is just as daft therefore is you claiming that you don't care about results or what league the team plays in, or what type of players the club can attract because they are in the top division, or whether they can only afford the dross that nobody else wants. His point was not about insensitivities, his point was about you cannot compete in the top league without significant revenue. Yes, we know you don't agree that it will bring in significant revenue, his point was that the change would be more palatable IF it proved to be the case. Neither you, Tyger or Dr Allam have a crystal ball so we'll just have to wait and see...
Yes, but you could market the nickname without changing the traditional name of the club. Which is what a lot of us have been saying.
Yes and this is typical of exactly the sort of stupid post that alienates genuine fans. So, after taking into account what I think you are trying to say in your broken English, and taking into account you user name and spelling, I assume you are from the Middle East. I congratulate you on your attempts at English. You have misunderstood what I actually said. Furthermore I never said it was a crap name, only that I did not particularly like it. I did however say that in order to run the club in a commercially expedient way I could live with it if it brought in a significant income. The trouble here is that once again, as you have no sensible argument you have resorted to personal abuse, and therefore drawn me into replying in a like manner. It's a shame, because we had just about reached a point where we could have had a serious discussion of the situation. Instead we will no doubt continue with the silly infighting which will ultimately result in Assem doing just what he wants.
Fixed. I think this is nearer the mark. No offence meant Fez, but I think you used to post from the NE on HDM under another name.
Not really, I'm just saying I think he lives in the NE. Decent poster imo. Sadly, one of the main results of this thread has been to bring some of the worst out of people. Shame really.
What you say is obviously true, I've posted several thngs that I shouldn't have, though me getting carried away is not that rare. But I'm really surprised at your stance on this, as fellow posters we go back years and I have a great deal of respect for your opinion, I'm really surprised this doesn't bother you more.
Nah we've had other threads that did that waaaay more than this one has. This is tame compared to some of the crap we've had on here.
This is true. The first few name change threads featured much worse things being thrown between the two cliques (I might as well call them that as they are).
Is this a daft competition? Where have I said that about results or what league the team performs in? I have said that I am prepared for my club to compete in a league that reflects it's financial status without selling it's soul to the devil of raping our heritage; I care very much about results and have always made that clear. As for your daft remarks about what I want in terms of players, perhaps you should read my posts on football related issues. His post was all about the sensitivities of how a name sounds to the ear of Eastern and Western cultures and his bottom line was that he would accept something acceptable to the East and not acceptable to the West, as long as the financial rewards were adequate. I think that is the ultimate sell-out; don't you? Tyger Tyger and Dr Allam have both put forward their opinions, without using a crystal ball, so I reserve the right do the same - how else do we debate the argument? What personal abuse? I said it was a daft post, in fact I credited it with being the daftest; I never abused you, as I am sure you sometimes do just daft posts and maybe better than that. You have made it clear that your own club scruples do not include cherishing the most fundamental part of our heritage - our name. What's to discuss? Too far south! My profile makes it clear, I've never tried to hide it. I changed my name on here as I could not get my HDM one to be accepted, so I used an old pub machine games score name, which I used long before the Allam takeover - it's turned out to be just an unfortunate coincidence
No no no, I'm on about totally different threads that showed some people up to be total scum. Sorry, must be an old fella thing, reminiscing about the old days. These threads have largely gone according to type I think. No responses bar a couple have surprised me at all.
I suppose someone had to ask. Maybe the simplest way to explain is that I'm really not bothered what the Allams call the club at Companies house. That really is just admin and housekeeping. I also think that it's already a fait accompli insomuch that they know what they are doing by means of divide and conquer. It's gonna happen and no amount of internet polls or banner waving is gonna make a difference. I do realise it's a totally bollocks idea by a mad old bloke and it's obvious that a name change is going to do nothing to expand our Asia footprint, but whilst I don't subscribe to the 'he saved the club / can do what he wants' mantra, I do think that he is not doing it to harm the club in anyway. I know there's the odd bit of piss-taking in the media and from a few other fans, but ultimately (to me anyway) I don't really care what anybody else who doesn't have the club at heart thinks. I buy a season ticket and go and watch the team I have supported for the last 30 years. Probably these days I do it with less passion than I used to and see it more as an entertainment outlet, though I was still sick for the whole 90+ minutes at the end of last season. Hull Tigers, Hull City Tigers, Hull City AFC, City or the Tigers - the product on the pitch doesn't change and I'm not going to stop going to games. Players, managers, kits and owners all change, but the fans remain. In time, the Allams will be gone and the name will most likely revert back, but for now it is what it is. There is much hand wringing and gnashing of teeth by people and no small amount of belittling of the opinions of others by both sides of the fence and I think some of the 'super fans', who have done the hard yards over the years, telling other supporters that they are lesser fans is poor. So with regards to the poll on this thread, then my thoughts are nearer the don't give a ****, when in reality if there was an option of 'I don't mind as it isn't going to change my life, but I really hope that it never gets as far as seeing Man Utd 0 - 4 Hull Tigers flashing across Final Score' I would have voted for that. I hope that makes sense.
