I talked to someone on here about this. I know why we got them and understand why, getting back to the CL, getting home grown players, a British feel to the team, and more. But...... these players will become along with Adam (imo) squad players next year, especially if we get CL and can attract big names. So why pay 35 mil and 20 mil for players that will become squad players? Granted Carroll if somehow he comes good could be worth it, Downing for his age and fee has to be doing it now and he is not. One name that was there to be had for so much cheaper was Santi Cazorla and we didn't even try for him!!! He is at Malaga, not CL footy, not some big powerhouse team, Malaga. I think Adam's price is OK, but if we get say an Adam Johnson for around 8-10 million I will question, then why spend 20 on Downing when you could have just put in 15 mil in the first place and got A. Johnson, Cazorla, or put in 2-3 million more and got mata????? This is the thinking I am a little worried about. The Carroll fee is also boggling as we could have waited, we could have had Dirk hold it down for us. Good win today, but just watching Carroll makes me cringe at the moment. He had one moment where he got it, ran at the defense, and laced one. Someone needs to remind him to do that more often......AND STAY IN THE F***ING MIDDLE OF THE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!!
