You might well whistle! Apart from anything else Rush was 10 times the player Bellamy is, but not by the time the Premier league came in - when he was in decline

Agree, all he had left by then was his diving and gamesmanship he learned at Juve

It was a bit of a tongue in cheek statement.

    Bitey bitey...

Correction: all he had left in his locker was the diving he learned playing in Europe with Liverpool

<ok> I know. I assumed there was a little internal logic, in that the order you gave was the order you would rate them. I did realise that you weren't putting them forward as the Prem's top 10.

The player for whom I would have voted isn't on the list - Peter Beardsley.

Good shout. Always worth a mention.

The three I'd go for are Paul Scholes, Dennis Bergkamp and Alan Shearer. If we're talking about what they did in the Premier league then I've put Scholes on top just because I believe he was the driving force behind so much of Man United's positive play. Bergkamp, for me, was responsible for so many of the most magic moments of the Premier League, and Shearer stands out as the greatest sustained goalscorer the Premier League has seen so far.

Henry and Bergkamp both have to make the top 3 for me. Henry consistently tore apart the league, scoring at will against any team. Bergkamp made some of the most magical moments the league has ever seen.

I'm obviously biased but I'd go for Shearer. Consistently hit 20+ goals (sometimes 30+) for 15 years.

If you add to the fact that he did this whilst not always playing for one of the best three or four teams and it's an even greater achievement. You only have to look at the fact that Ferguson tried to sign him on three seperate occasions to realise he was the best player in the world at what he did (putting the ball in the back of the net).

I dare say Shearer would have had 300+ Premier League goals if he'd signed for Man Utd and then this wouldn't even be worth debating. On pure natural ability players like Henry, Ronaldo etc had more natural talent. But Shearer had bravery, leadership, know how etc and they're all great traits for a striker.

Also a players ability shouldn't be judged on how many trophies his team won. Is Chrisopher Wreh better than Le Tissier because he has a league winners medal and Le Tissier doesn't? Of course not. Or is Heskey better than Bale because he's been to many a world cup and Bale probably never will???

Players should be judged on their ability, and not the ability of the team that they play for.
