It’s Liverpool’s own fault that Coutinho has gone. They should have let us sign him first back in that January when we Cortese was after him. That’s the order of things: to Saints first, we test them out and then off to Scousehampton.

Combine him with two or three decent January signings (one of whom has to be a decent goalscorer), and they should be absolutely fine.
Could say that about another relegation contender too.
Means about the same as when they said they had no further interest in signing Virgil.
The1966/67 season was our first in the top flight. It was so exciting. Just a short step it seemed from playing Swindon Town and we were about to entertain the big boys. Matchday against Liverpool, the up and coming rivals to Man Utd et al was set to be a great day. Then our keeper went for a ball and broke his leg in a collision with Roger Hunt, one of our World Cup heroes, and the day was buggered. With the sort of irrational rationality one applies to these situations I began my life time hatred of Liverpool FC. This latest bit of bollocks intensifies my feelings, especially having supped a couple of pints last night in the company of Reds fans wanting to tell me how great Virgil is.

As some may know, I have lived in and around Liverpool for decades. I love the City. I admire their genuine fans. But stuff like this story and the red mist descends (no pun intended!).

I was also there when Liverpool’s Craig Johnson broke Mark Wright’s leg at WHL in 1986.

No I know Fats, Wright went in on Johnson and Shilts came out and clattered both of them IIRC.
Didn't such abject failure as only getting to the semi-final (again) that season cost Chris Nichol his job? Up there with Puel as a WTF moment
Fits with what a Stoke fan was saying on another forum, they will only hire someone with PL experience. Was responding to people saying would be someone from the Championship.
I hope he goes...Did alright but it's now the time to leave as things are going stale...Negatively I think he would be enough of an influence to keep them up for this season...In saying that I reckon any half decent manager would keep them up

Interesting article about how the PL has changed with more teams fighting to avoid relegation. Asks where all the mid-table teams have gone with top 6 sides winning almost every encounter. The result or cause is negative football from the lower sides. What isn't pointed out is how low scoring games are between the top sides who are also fighting not to lose.
Does make you think that what has happened to Saints is part of a general malaise. It may explain why newly promoted sides started well....they hadn't yet been affected by the PL poison. Also suggests that the first team to pick up its skirts and go for it (like Crystal Palace did) will rise up the table.
