http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...fire-built-by-west-ham-s-london-a3362936.html An article discussing the problems with West Ham settling into the Olympic stadium. Two things I must say...I have never joined in with the idea that West Ham have stolen something...they didn't hold a gun to anyone's head and somebody had to use the place other than athletics...and most teams struggle initially in a new ground (as we know). The problem with this stadium is the alienating distance between the fans and the action....and the failure of the club to make sure their noisy fans were kept together (as we did with the Northam). I love and admire the noise of the Northam, but I wouldn't want to sit next to a standing, yelling fan.....and this is what has caused problems between the fans within the ground. I think the whole nature of the West Ham fan base will change with time....some will drift away to be replaced by newer fans...will make no difference to the club viability, but some will feel they have lost the club. Crystal Palace thought they had been done by this deal....be interesting to see what happens to them over the next few years....did they miss out or dodge a bullet?
http://www.espn.co.uk/football/ecua...cia-avoids-police-pitchside-during-chile-game Valencia of Everton has evaded pitchside police waiting to arrest him for unpaid child support by feigning illness. They have tried to arrest him 3 times whilst he plays for his international side. This is over a claim of 17K dollars for support of his daughter....he apparently lets it accumulate rather than just pay up on time. Sounds a right charmer.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...dge-FA-Cup-replay-banned-Sunderland-game.html This is a weird one...to buy a season ticket at United you have to agree to buy a certain number of cup games, so if they don't buy a cup ticket they are banned for the next EPL game. Never heard that before.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/551707/Premier-League-managers-compared-sportgalleries Completely pointless and arbitrary ranking of EPL managers by the Star (but it is the international break or footballing desert as it is known). I was all set to hitch my outrage wagon up when I noted Puel was joint 7 with Koeman...decided that was about right at the moment.
http://www.skysports.com/football/n...iggs-says-swansea-did-not-match-his-ambitions Ryan Giggs says he passed up Swansea. The thing is did they actually want him?
Idiot. How's he going to prove he's a good enough manager if he doesn't take a PL job when offered it? Hope it comes back to bite him on the arse.
That can only mean he wanted loads of money. I actually thing Bob Bradley could do ok. And Giggs would not.
For me, were I a Swan, I'd want FG left in charge. But failing that, Bob seems a far better choice than the giant ego that is Ryan. Proper jumped up little **** that guy.
That is one of the phrases that make me bristle...implies that some teams don't mind if they win or lose. Not every team has millions to throw around....and some (like Saints) have a long term and not a short term plan. I do understand that managers (of necessity) think more in the short term (or they'd be out on their ear), but I'd admire them more if they trusted in their ability to manage well on a limited budget. Sounds like Giggs wants the easy life of being successful by splashing the cash and doesn't want to risk failing. I think he'd have done better to get experience at an EPL club like Swansea....IF he was actually offered the job.
This is funny on the topic of Giggs and his mates Savage and Sutton. http://www.football365.com/news/mediawatch-justice-for-poor-ryan-giggs Oh wait, there's more! 1 week later Savage is still not over it. http://www.football365.com/news/mediawatch-extra-robbie-savage-on-giggs
Just been belatedly listening to BBC 606 from earlier this evening. Ian Wright has just mentioned about how entertaining and sharp Danny Baker's Twitter feed is on the England v Malta game. Of course, I had to take a look. Remove the bullshit and platitudes, Danny doesn't pull any punches. Get past today's outpourings about his record collection and punk rock and scroll down. You'll know when you see it: https://twitter.com/prodnose?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author
I've liked Danny Baker since he was on a London TV show on Friday evening co-hosted with Michael Aspel. I'll pause to let all the youngster go, "Who?" Think it may have been his breakthrough in the business but I have fond memories of that show.
My son had videos of his football funniest moments...his commentaries were funny, but must say I have lost sight of his career since then.
