Honestly don't think age matters all that much, so long as the players buy in. He's older than Nagelsmann was when he took Hoffenheim to the Champions League.

Brighton has shown a willingness to roll the dice, and more often than not those rolls have gone in their favour. This is the biggest one to date, but there are worse gambles than a precocious young German manager that fits their style.
