A decent discussion being had on the BBC now about the way the players reacted. Players are not supposed to be respectful only when things go their way. As someone on the BBC HYS said, nobody got in Haaland's face and screamed at him when he missed a sitter first half.

I want to see a genuine initiative to improve the behaviour of players and managers. Money is not an excuse for being unprofessional. Too many of these pros are just bullies.

That's kind of the point - we should have the best ref in the country on that game, someone who isn't making the same mistakes as tomw24 on not606! The standard of officiating in this country does seem to be very poor and getting worse.

Although with the abuse ref's get, even at a low level, I can see why people don't fancy it. I wonder if amateur refs get the same level of abuse in other countries as they do here.

People are human though, and sometimes these mistakes happen. Bit of a fuss about nothing, unless we want VAR to rule on everything (and we really don’t). I’d much rather risk the odd mistake, even a clanger like this, and have no VAR.

Haaland missed two sitters but no one is screaming abuse at him. I'd say he made more mistakes than the referee yesterday but no one seems to care about that. After all, Haaland is human and everyone expects him to miss the odd chance but referees are expected to be perfect all the time.

Hoping Haaland cops a ban to be honest

Giving the 10 yard rule a trial in the lower divisions might improve behaviour.

Wasn’t excusing the ref. Just making the statement which is that I thought it might have been offside thus making the whole fuss irrelevant

But it was clearly on so if it was stopped for offside it would still be causing a fuss!

I don’t expect refs to be perfect, I’m just puzzled that having waved play on twice he then blew his whistle when it became clear that Man City had an advantage. His line of sight appears to be pretty clear, with regards to seeing Grealish.
    Brain fart I guess.
I also don’t think refs should be subject to the harassment they receive from players, but a lot of that stems from their own weakness. Any player getting in their face could and should be booked. I thought refs used to go into the dressing rooms before games to set the ground rules, maybe not, but if they let it be known that they will take a zero tolerance to it, it will stop. (Didn’t they once do that, with just the captain approaching them?).
Grealish got booked for the heinous crime of kicking the ball away, the new initiative that they are persisting with this season.
A few weeks back I shared a video from Spanish football where a ref waiting on VAR used his foam spray to draw a line on the ground and told the players not to cross it and they didn’t.

Didn't the season start like this? Certainly in the Championship there were cards all over. However, I feel like people were upset with all the cards and a message must have filtered down from the authorities to stop booking for unpleasantness from Big Time Charlies.

If that hasn't happened, I am at a loss as to why these guys aren't getting booked every game. Perhaps it is indeed weakness from the refs.

I’m just saying on first glance to my eyes it looked as if it could have been off. You are so argumentative mate

It wasn't meant to come across as argumentative. I was simply making my point.

On or off it wasn't the refs decision to make, the lino if obvious or VAR check if a goal is scored and it's borderline. Peace and love.<peacedove>

Just when you didn’t think technology could get more entwined in football, a new microchip to detect offsides and which part of the body the ball touches, is to be trialled.

UEFA are ready to use microchip technology to punish handball in Euro 2024.

The revolutionary microchip will be inside the Adidas ball for the tournament next summer and it can check for handball as well as offsides in the build-up to goals.

It will use limb-tracking technology for VARs to create computerised images to show exactly where the ball hits a player on the body.

The Premier League have struggled even with replays to prove where the ball has hit players on the arm.

UEFA were caught up in a storm last week when officials wrongly gave Paris Saint-Germain a late penalty against Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento for handball in the Champions League.

That's Raya surely done at Arsenal. If Ramsdale isn't reinstated as number 1 after this horror show then he has every right to tell Arteta to **** off.
