If ever there was a season to want to be deducted points it will be this one. They’ll still survive pretty comfortably I think
This comment on the GOT forum has particularly amused me: That's all well and good but the League Cup is run by the EFL, not the PL you numpty.
Even if they went back to zero points I'd have thought this season they'll be fine for staying up anyway. Proper ****e at the foot of the PL this season - nice not to be a part of it.
Kinda free money, because we were almost definitely getting relegated anyway. Leicester/Leeds have every right to be aggrieved, though. I'd still expect Everton to survive; the bottom of the table is just appalling, while Everton is merely mediocre. Hilarious that even with the handicap of -10 points in November, they could be out of the drop zone in short order.
This does feel a bit of a cop out - give them a points deduction when it won't actually impact them. Didn't fancy it last season when it would have sent them down.
I do think it’s ridiculous that they have been punished when the big six avoid punishments for anything they do. In fact I think it’s more than ridiculous. I think it’s a disgrace and shows clear bias. They are scared to deduct points from certain clubs and not others.
From BBC: "The chair of the commission, David Phillips KC, also referenced applications for financial compensation from current Premier League clubs Burnley and Nottingham Forest and last season's relegated sides, Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton." Why would Burnley be due anything? Because of their relegation the prior season perhaps?
City and Chelsea are still being investigated. Can't hand out punishments before these are concluded.
Argument would be that if Everton hadn’t spent illegal levels of money on their squad we may have finished above them I guess
If we get even £1 compo, it is totally free money. We were so bad last year, there is no way anyone could have finished below us.
Yeah, and the amount of money based on finishing position isn't totally negligible...believe it's about 2m per position. Seems a fair enough claim. At least all this compo money is money Everton can't waste on bad players, so there's a silver lining for them.
On the one hand, it's massive news. On the other hand, it's unlikely to actually relegate Everton. Which would make the points deduction more akin to a fine (ie the decrease in prize money for Everton at the end of the season). As others have said, if there was any season to get a points deduction, this is absolutely the one. Burnley I would suggest are the ones entitled to the most compensation. They are the ones who went down in 2021-22 rather than Everton. Yes, Leicester, Leeds and ourselves all finished below them last season, but they shouldn't have even been in the PL last season - Burnley should have been.
TBH If I was a City fan, I'd be ****ting myself about the 115 charges City face. Everton were deducted 10 points for being guilty of one charge. It's entirely feasible they could be relegated if found guilty.
