This is what I've been waiting to see this season, regarding Arteta. Everything has been going great for him this season, and fair play. But prior to this season, my biggest question mark over him was his ability to change a game which is going against them. He only ever seemed to have one answer: throw on attackers for defenders. More and more and more attackers. Not exactly the work of a genius. But because they've barely ever been behind this season, I haven't really had the chance to see if he's improved yet in that regard.
It’s a fair comment. He did it earlier in the season against West Ham at home but as this title race goes on, he’ll have to do it away from home more often, you’d presume.
Tbh I’m now running on the assumption that we are done, if we survive it’ll be a massively unexpected bonus.
Dyche is very assured in preforming the footballing equivalent of a transorbital lobotomy. I'm not sure about Jones poking around up there.
I can only assume sports republic assumed Jones would offer something different to what he is - which is no more attractive than Dyche football but even more poorly implemented and no guarantee of results What made them think this - I have no idea
A master class in organising a team to defend and hit on the counter. Dyche has the right type of player in his squad to do this. Not sure he could have replicated it with our players.
It is a good thing we have Jones here. He has got our side really drilled with… the football… system… thing… he kind of plays… sort of…
Pretty much went by the Dyche playbook. Defenders didn't venture too far forward. Height and strength across the pitch, which was utilitsed at set pieces and during open play. Wingers tracked back like their lives depended on it (McNeil was my MOTM for that reason). It wasn't ugly or dirty. But nor was it pretty, tippy-tappy. Solid.
And doesn’t understand - see quotes from him on us usually scoring when we play a back five when the opposite is the case
