A few things to ponder after that ManU performance. They were good but if anything it exposed Liverpool's current issues. The first 15-20 were fierce and anyone would struggle to keep that at bay but as soon as they scored the nerves crept in and that was the side I'd like to expose on saturday. Couldn't get the ball, couldnt keep the ball, couldn't pass the ball and all under moderate pressure. Liverpool were poor everywhere and ManU took advantage but still could have finished with a draw. Che on Martinez would be interesting and Mara running behind Varane. Mctominay was decent so expect him to be rubbish this weekend, I'd back Lavia and JWP to dominate in there again anyway. Aside from Martinez, Malacia was MoTM for me and looked a solid defender, KWP will have his hands full getting wide. Watch us give a penalty away as they were pretty quick throwing themselves to the ground.
Unfortunately it looks like they will have Casemiro available on Saturday, so their midfield will be massively improved
I would be intrigued to see how Jurgen Klopp would cope with a relegation battle. I can't see Liverpool struggling to that degree but it would be fascinating to see how he would cope if at the helm of someone like Leicester, Bournemouth or even Everton.
As amusing as the start made by Liverpool is, and to a lesser degree (after last night) Man Utd. It's still just 3 games in, Man City won the league last season having lost 3 games and drawn 6 so it's hardly game over at the top.
That is fair enough but of that dropped points total Liverpool are a third of the way there after just three games. Assuming of course that something similar happens this season - which seems unlikely
As the saying goes, 'frankly, my dear, I couldn't give a dam' about either of these over hyped teams. The media will provide more than enough sympathy for them and don't forget, when we have a decent result against either, it won't be down to us.
Not going well for poor old Brendan. 0-0 at Stockport in the cup last night, albeit a win on penalties.
Not my post but definitely an aging midfield & a load of first team injuries I’d imagine is the initial response
I saw something saying they had 7 central midfielders under contract in response to the suggestions that FSG need to go out an reinforce Thiago Fabinho Henderson Milner Keita Jones I don’t know if they are counting Carvalho or Oxlade and the seventh. Presumably the former?
Rodgers hasn’t done a bad job there, has he? Won the FA cup, finished 5th a couple of times. Granted I don’t watch them week in, week out, but it seems a bit harsh.
They binned Ranieri pretty soon after winning them the league didn’t they? Like less than a season I think?
It would appear that this has inflated their expectations. There was always a good chance they would revert to the mean. They kind of did last year but got boosted by a bunch of teams around them slumping towards the end. Sort of like the Puel 8th season but not as tight. But arguably their position was inflated I think they assumed that it wasn’t and was actually lower than it should have been due to an injury crisis But they have not recruited that well recently (as we know). They were even really patchy with the title win windfall. Was it 30m on Slimani ? And now they seem to just be in a situation we were in when Brendan made his infamous comments about us. Big players want to leave and they really need to sell to operate. Maybe slightly different as they could still afford to extend Vardy’s contract (perhaps there is no pay rise though) and the players who want to go are not as numerous and command higher fees. But they also seem to have more higher wage deadwood that they can’t really move than we did at the time
