Was this analysis you were referring to? New Premier League season: How will introduction of five-subs rule affect top flight? - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/62224191 Interesting point made in the article "Southampton performed better than Liverpool despite using only 28 subs compared with Liverpool's 42." More similar next season please! As you say it was a 9 game snapshot we'll need a full season to judge the impact.
My concern with so many subs is it will become like international friendlies where all momentum and coherence is lost once 8-10 changes are made.
I saw that Given we lost more points from winning/drawing positions I’ve no idea how we did that It would help that Liverpool were always generally winning by the sub stage so could never improve on that
Yeah that's the reason i didn't want it too. Saw it in a couple cup matches last season where the last 15/20 minutes were almost a testimonial level of intensity.
I can't see that for 2 reasons: Firstly you can still only make subs at 3 points in the game so the game won't be stopped constantly in the 2nd half. Secondly most PL fixtures are close games so games will still have that competitive edge to them even after all the subs.
Newcastle’s transfer business feels so snipey and predatory. The were (allegedly) waiting for Bordeaux to go bust to get Mara, Leicester need to sell to buy so they try and take Maddison. After taking Chris Wood last year they have been quietly going about some dark voodoo. I’m usually a fan of this kind of cynicism but it feels like a pattern and I do not care for it one bit!
What is going on with Leicester? Are they hamstrung by FFP? It seems like they were counting on selling Tielemans to generate funds and remove a big wage from the wage bill
Head over to the Prem board for some really insightful and not tedious at all insight from FosseFilberto
Gosh - you weren’t wrong about tedious. The man is insufferable. I almost want Newcastle to succeed in getting Maddison (for far less than his quoted 100m) just to see how he would try and rationalise it From what I gather he thinks Leicester haven’t signed anyone because … they don’t need to. He also rambled on about a debt - equity swap on takeover and claimed it can be done again - backing this up by saying he works in the financial sector (which , of course , could mean anything but I doubt it is “high finance”). I’m pretty sure that kind of thing happened years ago and is not really allowed now but I don’t know anything about it (and also work in the “financial sector” - suggesting how meaningless such as statement is) He also threw in a bit of Joffrey “I am the king” type nonsense. I’m both happy and annoyed that I discovered that thread !
It's still allowed, but only within the general parameters of the fair play rules. Moshiri converted nine figures of Everton's debt to equity last year.
I was taking what that guy said about finance with a pinch of salt as he very quickly revealed he didn’t know how football players were accounted for at even the most basic level (as there are complexities).
Good to see us right near the bottom of this particular table. Should football clubs travel so far for pre-season? - BBC Sport
The new Prediction League starts this week - https://www.not606.com/threads/weekend-6-august.401746/ It's been running for a few seasons now and is just a bit of fun but there is a prize for the overall winner at the end of the season New (and old) players always welcome
It's a list of all the soon to be competing teams in alphabetical order starting with AFC Bournemouth... Well, you did ask
