Bit late on here as we had a very busy pre Xmas weekend & only just catching up. Can’t believe some of you thought the Kane incident wasn’t red. It was reckless, off the floor, studs up & if Robertson had not anticipated & taken his weight off would be out for much more than the suspension. Red all day long. Amazed at ref & of course the other prat operating Var. I also see every pundit agreed on red. Que: if Robertson hadn’t taken weight off, he would have definitely been off the pitch injured. Would that had made any difference!?
The official line apparently is yes, and the reason given afterwards by PGMOL as to why only yellow was Robertson’s leg being off the floor
That's a ****ing stupid reason. I admit at the time thought there wasn't enough to overturn the onfield yellow. However, each time I watch the tackle the more I think VAR really should have intervened.
So - keep your leg planted, risk a red card …. WTAF? Your natural reaction will be to jump out of the way. Red all day - dreadful refereeing and even worse VAR. No wonder fans are up - I can’t help feeling that if that had been Oriel going in, we’d have been missing him for a few games
Why was it even worse by VAR? The PL have now implemented VAR such that it only intervenes if the referee has missed something. If the referee has seen everything he needs to see, his decision will stand (whether right or wrong) - VAR has nothing extra to offer him, by inviting him to the monitor. The referee should have sent Kane off. A good example was Vestergaard's red card vs Leicester last season. He clearly got a touch on the ball. If the referee had missed that touch, the VAR would have sent him to the monitor. But the referee did see it. And still came to the illogical conclusion that it was a red. Basically, the VAR isn't there (or rather, isn't meant to be there) to go "this is what I would do with the hindsight of a replay" - it's more "what has the referee told me he has seen? Is there anything I need to tell him he has missed?". Now, whether VAR could be used in a different way is a whole separate, and far bigger, debate.
And that debate should be happening, urgently, right now. Correcting clear and obvious errors is just code for reinforcing incompetency.
Scotland follow Wales in no spectators at stadiums after Xmas. How long before they bring that in England
Liverpool was able to put a team together for last night's cup game, yet they can't manage to find enough players for the weekend. This after Klopp has been moaning about getting games suspended over Christmas
Hopefully Manchester City will be six points clear after the Boxing Day round of fixtures, and even further ahead by the time FA Cup.3rd round commences.
ok. I was not aware of that. Liverpool's Premier League game with Leeds and Wolves vs Watford on Boxing Day postponed due to Covid-19 cases Sky's headline seems to indicate the onus was on Liverpool
