They are down anyway so I think I would have stuck with him to bring them back up, but I imagine part of the reason why he's been sacked is because they did spend money in the summer and that clearly didn't pay off!
Stupid decision. Their team is pretty crap and certainly one of the worst 3 in the league - Wilder worked miracles last season and that extra year of PL revenue is so important in the current climate. They should have accepted relegation and asked who the best man to get them promoted would be. Just like Burnley did and Norwich also look as though they made the right call with Farke.
Odd with Wilder, as if the issue was PL form then he would have gone a while ago, assumed they thought he was the best guy to bring them back. He has done a very good job up until this season, but from the owners perspective they have invested and many of their PL signings haven’t lived up to expectation.
Odd game for Tuchel to drop a CB in favour of a back 4. Leeds will give up enough chances as it is - so Chelsea hardly need the extra attacker. But instead, they're playing into Leeds' hands by leaving themselves more exposed at the back. Could have three goals in this game already.
Finally, a correct handball call. (No surprise that Hooper was too inept to give it live. Only surprise is that he reached the correct decision in the end.)
Since being signed, Diagne really is doing his best to challenge Watkins (and maybe Che) for the award of "current PL striker who least understands how to stay onside".
Only one team with a goal differential better than -20 has been relegated (Hull, -18) in the past twelve years. Two of the chief contenders are nowhere near that as we hit the stretch run. Meanwhile, Palace has a shot at posting the worst goal differential of any top half side in that same span. Football is weird.
The decision for Chris Wilder to walk away from Sheffield Utd was being reported as being a mutual one on Radio 5 this lunchtime. There was also a report that he was in the running for the Celtic job which I think would be a major surprise. If you want a longshot, I wonder what the odds would be of Wilder rocking up at Southampton assuming we decided to say goodbye to Hassenhutl ? There are connections with the Saints but also I think the poor state of the Utd academy was one reasons cited for him leaving. In my opinion, they over-achieved last season and I was not surprised to see the struggle in 2020/21 even if I had not expected them to be so poor.
