Just read the CP v Lester match report. Lester made 7 changes from the last match. There is no way Saints could do that. If we change 3 players, we are seriously weakened. Saints are seriously over performing with our very limited squad. We have 2 players new to the squad, 1 player past his best, 6 academy players. Logic says we cannot go a whole season without burning out, playing high tempo football. It’s great to watch but injuries will catch up with us, sadly.
In fairness if you looked at the Leicester line up yesterday it was extremely weak, they don’t have much more strength in depth than us, just a very strong first XI, Palace will be kicking themselves.
Leicester don't have an entire second XI, yes. The likes of Amartey, Thomas and Choudhury who started yesterday are nothing to shout about. But I'd still argue that they have significantly greater depth than we do. Fofana, Soyuncu, Pereira, Castagne, Tielemans, Maddison, Albrighton, Ndidi, and Vardy - you could throw in Fuchs, Gray and Under too - all didn't start yesterday. That's not a handful of players missing, like us against Fulham. That is practically their entire first XI. When they have everyone available, the likes of Justin, Fofana, Perez and others don't make their fist XI. These are guys who would start every week for a decent number of PL teams. Would Long? Would Valery?
Come on, come on .... I’m a long time Saints supporter. When was the last time we won the last game of the year? Think it was some time ago .... I remember coming back from South Africa for Christmas and being given a ticket from my mate to see Saints “thrash” West Brom (who were then pretty well bottom from memory) as a present. We lost 1-0 in an appalling game ..... Sadly, I rather wish Moyes had got their line up wrong against us than in their last game ...... seriously hoping Antonio isn’t fit .....
Indeed. There should be no question of 'carrying on'. Having had a few concussions: you are absolutely not in a position to be making such decisions. Those decisions need to be made for you in the moment by trained professionals. Not saying that Che has a concussion, but rather that sort of blow to the head creates a paradox: if they're fine, they'll say they are fine. If they aren't fine, they'll say they are fine and it won't be apparent that they are not until some time after when they cannot remember the match.
100%. At the absolute minimum he should have gone for a concussion assessment by a medical professional before being allowed to carry on. That’s what happens in Rugby, and it’s the right thing to do.
Yep. Allow substitutes for head injuries so that there's less incentive to claim that the player is fine, and if you're worried about teams gaming that system, have a league-appointed physician (rather than a team's doctor) making that call. It really isn't that complex.
We've had some horrific times at home, but I don't think even we went through an entire calendar year winning just once at home. Brighton's results under Potter just haven't improved.
They have a suggestion for that in the upcoming trial, if a player has to be subbed for concussion then the other team gets an additional substitution as well.
Yeah, that's even more open for gamesmanship, honestly. Just leave it to an independent medical professional to make medical decisions. Take the teams out of it as best possible.
