I think that is a desirable trait to acquire in a ref, don't you..? :)

But it's impossible. Humans make mistakes therefore referees will make mistakes. It's a fact of life and some people need to get over that.

I totally understand. However, the aim should be 100% correct decisions, even if that is not achievable.

I can see a time coming in the near future when clubs say enough, this isn't acceptable anymore, we want a system put in place that cuts out the refereeing errors. At the moment, referees don't even have to answer for their mistakes, except by an occasional downgrading in their status, but the affected club can effectively miss out on a title, lose a cup competition, or even be relegated. This is costing clubs potentially millions. Pundits will say it all evens out over a season. I don't believe that for a micro-second. It's a lazy way to explain away the irregularities and imponderables of football. We are in a day and age where these imponderables can be overcome. It just requires the will.

Anyone who listens to discussions about penalties or off sides (was it or wasn't it) will know it is not black and white. Some are very obvious, but many disputed decisions remain disputed days later. There will never be a fool proof system...the only thing to do is for money to be spent on more training, but even that won't give you refs who can't be duped or make 100% correct decisions.

Regarding the Stoke penalty award, I think the fact only one player optimistically appealed is a pretty good indication that there's nothing to give. Baffling decision, and frankly they don't always help themselves.

That long haired bloke running the line on the Kingsland side didn't get any decisions wrong in the Hull game!

I didn't think it was one (yet again I say, put yourself in the ref's shoes and think about the view he would have seen), but it was a great example of the problems of saying "just allow TV referees". I don't see how you could overrule that decision conclusively. Actually I don't really want to start this debate so forget all that :)

Penalties are tricky I will agree.Sometimes with the benefit of slo-mo you can't even tell so it is unfair perhaps to criticise on many occasions.I didn't think either Chelsea or Swansea fell into that category.Certainly if you compare WBA's last minute shout against Stoke I think our pottery making chums got a double whammy there.

The Man U booking of Jones I thought a very poor decision, totally indefensible because as has been pointed out it was either deliberate or an accidental collision. Therefore a red or no booking.

Sorry but there's no way that was a penalty for Stoke. The ball was deflected by the Stoke player (Nzonzi?) and hit Routledge on the arm. There is absolutely no way he moved his hand towards the ball. His hand was only there because he was touching the Stoke player, which just demonstrates what a short distance the ball travelled to hit him, and there's no chance he could have moved his arm away from the ball in that time.

Gus Poyet has had a row with the Sunderland board and has threatened to resign, according to tomorrow's papers.

Papers blowing it all out of proportion again. Poyet stating that he wants to choose his own signings is immediately blown up into a threat to quit.
