They have almost gone through 1 manager a year since Peter Reid. They have spent alot of cash on alot of players without attracting any big names. Each new manager is given cash with basically zero return for the money except scraping through each year to survive in the PL. They are a big club but that means nothing these days. hope Di Matteo gets the job as he strikes as a very honest and noble man who was poorly treated by Chelsea yet never cried about it. The other options are Poyet, Pulis and McClarin <doh>

Yeah, when you look back they have spent so much money! I wonder how much they've spent on transfers in the last ten years

Southampton v Crystal Palace Referee = Martin Atkinson Linesmen = S Burt & D England 4th Official = L Probert

Oh great.

The devil in referee's clothing.

Well, clearly he won't be showing a red card unless a defender machete's an attacker in half. Plus the attacker and defender have to be nearly over the goal line, to be sure that the defender is the last man, and the attacker has been heading goalwards, with the remainder of the teams the other side of the halfway line. :D

I make it in the last 7 years allowing for players being sold everytime they get a new manager, the net sum is around 95 million pounds. In total they have spent 156 million on new players and have recouped 61 million

That is astonishing if correct. 95million outlay, and they were already a solid club. They should be challenging the top 6 spots, not flirting with relegation. Some terrible decisions have been made over there, a lot of former managers of theirs should be ashamed really.

Let's not complain about Martin Atkinson too much. We've won 4 out of 7 games under him - one of the losses being the 2-1 to United in the cup. Last season he took charge of our win over Newcastle, and a small matter of the St Mary's Manchester City game.

It's not that I think he'll harm our chances of winning, he's just as likely to do Palace over, it's just that I think he's the most dreadful ref going.

Holloway moaned about refs not giving his side decision "because they aren't big enough" when he was at Blackpool. Let's hope this continues for him as Palace manager against "big" Southampton...

There is so tough competition, but I would have to agree with you there. We may win with him, but he is absolutely useless. Still gets on the Uefa officials list though...

I have to ask. Are there any refs that are generally accepted to be good? I can never keep track.
