In that case, why the hell are you watching Man Utd v Chelsea? Look out for Crawley v Rotherham or such like as that will fill your need for excitement. You've made a bit if a daft comment really TSS. You've moaned about a game you have no interest in.....

.... And I thought you hardly watched television :)

It's not a daft comment. I can watch what I want to watch and this is one of the rare occasions. I can also give my opinion, and if I don't believe the game has lived up to its billing then that's my opinion.

Ah, Patrice Evra has just fascinatingly put the ball into touch while passing all of 20 feet to a teammate..! :)

I never said you couldnt watch what you wanted, so dont go getting niggled because ive questioned you. Sorry mate, but you've moaned about Man Utd v Chelsea not being exciting, so I'll ask you,"What did you expect from this fixture?" I'm Watching it because I expected a fascinating tactical battle; that's what I'm watching.

Indeed. I thought so too. I notice Rooney is playing in a very similar position to where Moyes used to play him at Everton. Attacking midfield/behind the striker.

That's where he's been playing for a while, though.

Is it me or is Chris Waddle one of the most drab commentators around? Feels in tone with the game. But gutting that loads of people will get fantasy football defensive points :(!

Is there something in the air this weekend. Everyone seems to be so touchy. I am not niggled. As if anything written on here could niggle me. :)

But to answer your question, what did I expect from this fixture..? Without going into specifics, slightly more than it is delivering. I'm not even sure it is a high quality tactical battle. There have been a lot of unforced errors going on.

I'm quite pleased with a 0-0 draw in a way as I am one of those people. :1980_boogie_down:

Good job there haven't been any (non)debatable offside calls in this game <whistle>

I thought your first reply was a little indignant TSS when you told me that you could watch what you wanted... That's all.

For what it's worth, your answer above hasn't answers my question on what you expected or wanted from the game. I just think that you (and others, I hair happened to respond to you first) don't appreciate some of the more intricate parts of our wonderful game. That may not have been filled with thrills and spills, but personally I enjoyed trying to understand the play and tactics. I'd rather watch that than see Stoke beat Sunderland 3-2.

Although he didn't have a great game tonight, I enjoyed watching Carrick in the first half; he sees a forward pass before most other players. What a talent and to think we didn't bother building an England team around him and wasted ten years deciding if Lampard and Gerrard can play together; I'd have been deciding which one would play with Carrick.

Interesting tactical battle. Not exciting, but from a coaching perspective an interesting game.

Chelsea and United's defences are far too solid

I watched a fascinating encounter between two top sites who basically couldn't break each other down. For me, I was watching the movement, passing, marking and general play of two if the top sites in England. I was watching to see what either manager would do to change the game either by subtle changes or substitutions. I wanted to see how they passed and moved, to see how Rooney played, to try and see how they played in comparison to Saints. I wanted to see if I could learn anything from the game. I was trying to assess how these top players were using the ball and to see f I thought they had used the best option when they got it.

I didn't turn on the television tonight expecting to see 6 goals or the ball pumped from one end of the pitch to the other.

The game was not an "exciting spectacle", however from a technical and tacticAl point of view it was fascinating. Football does not have to be about goals, goals, goals. Yes, I like that but when it's man united v Chelsea, I expect to see some quality control, good passing, tough marking, excellent movement and a tight game: that's what I saw tonight.

If its not for you, fine, try Northampton v Newport. That was 3-1 locally to me the other week and absolutely dire football. I'd rather watch united v Chelsea thanks.

No. I wasn't indignant, FLT. We'll just have to blame the medium we are using there. You couldn't hear the snarl I made while typing [I'm kidding ;) ]

To answer your question a little better. There was a time when I was a football fan. I used to be fully engaged in whatever a football match threw up, because I was interested in the sport and the contest. I think I've mentioned several times now that I'm no longer a football fan. I am a Saints fan. There's a difference. Saints can do anything they like in a match and I will be interested. If another team or two do the same then it is up to my mood of whim whether I am interested or not. I'm certainly not interested in the two teams who played each other this evening so I just wanted them to entertain me. I wanted an end-to-end contest, of which even the most disinterested must know both teams are capable of. It didn't happen and I expressed my opinion on it. If that grated with you, or spoilt your enjoyment in any way then I am truly sorry. I would never wish to be the cause of offence to anyone on here.

I wonder what Mark Chapman will say..? I have just enough curiosity to watch. But mainly because they might make a mention of one of the best attacks in the Premier League. :)

I used to watch a lot of football...now only really interested in Saints. I do watch Europa and European Cup matches because I can side with the English side, but have little interest in any two random PL sides because I just don't care enough.
