Scudamore is real. The prince joke is not the only thing he said. If Jay from The Inbetweeners was real and held Scudamore's position he'd rightly come under the same criticism.
How far can we get this away from reality? Haha But jay was saying sexist jokes in public and not via private email to his friends. But maybe jay cc'd the wrong person? Written jokes are never as funny than said in the spur of the moment.
There is a difference between a fictional character and the opinions of a senior member of an organisation. No one could look at him now and think of anything else but his infantile sense of humour. However, having said that, I'm not a great believer in knee jerk reactions and rushing to sack people, though it has been pointed out that he probably would have been if the joke was considered racist. We all share non-PC jokes...just don't put it in writing on twitter, Facebook etc. Scudamore thought this was private...must be pretty daft if he didn't realise all his e-mails went to his assistant.
I don't get it - why is Jay funny and Scudamore disgusting? Jay's words are written by a man/woman in a position to influence children and Scudamores emails (had they remained private) would influence nobody?
It doesn't really matter that the conversations were private. It's not like someone was spying on the private conversations; they were released by someone who was privy to them. And anyway, if he's sexist he's sexist (though I'm not saying he definitely is). It doesn't matter how we come to realise it.
Also remember Jay isn't funny to everyone. I remember enjoying humour when I was young almost solely because it was rude, shocking and older people didn't 'get it'. Nothing has changed...the young still like infantile humour....you might hope to grow out of it.
How are you having such trouble differentiating a fictional teenager from a real adult in a position of authority? Kids aren't supposed to relate to Jay, they're supposed to think he's a tit.
I think people laugh at jay rather than the joke, as in the point of the character is to be a bit of a dick
Good point. If Scudamore's PA could see these emails then presumably he was sending them from a work address rather than a private one.
Good to see there are no sexists on this forum and Morgan is soley admired for his interception stats and ability to thread a telling forward pass!
Being interested in the physical beauty of the opposite sex (or same sex just to be PC ) is a bit different from being vile.
Richard Scudamore remains as Premier League Chief Executive following sexism row. Common sense prevails I think. His comments were disrespectful, but there wasn't any malice from him, and I think he has done a pretty good job. Plus, David Cameron has just said in an interview, that such behaviour wouldn't be tolerated by him. That's reason enough to keep him in the job.
