Newly recognised I suppose. Grime has been on the scene since the early days of Bashy and Devilman etc. Skepta has been around a while, but most of his early stuff is just Risky Roadz youtube stuff.
Nope, it's simply a 'best album of the year' thing, hence why Bowie was nominated this year for Blackstar and Radiohead for Moon Shaped Pool. They do like to try and recognise new and alternative music though.
