I wouldn't be against the idea either, but these clubs would be looking at a cheap deal. Hopefully he can cut out the ricks and boost his value going forward. He was open about the stepping stone nature of his acquisition when joining.
I'd have Danny back in a heartbeat and for those that say he rejected us, well we rejected him first as a schoolboy. Mick Channon left us for Citeh and he did ok when he came back home.
I never understood the stick Ings got tbh. He never made any promises about staying forever or said anything disrespectful about the club. Still king of the scummers for me for those two goals at Fratton alone.
Ings though did distance himself from being “one of our own” and Saints being his boyhood club dream to being raised in Winchester and Saints were his local club rather than his boyhood dream that was pushed when he signed IIRC
One aspect of Danny potentially returning - I think he’d be brilliant for Sekou to learn how to play at this level from. They have pretty similar style games, and would be hugely useful for Sekou to study up close (I think).
I thought that was the press saying that when he signed rather than him ? I was sure that he always said 'local club' but might be wrong.
I'd be happy for us to pay slightly over market value to bring Ings in for the rest of the season. There aren't many strikers like him who can play on his own up front or in a two, has scored goals in the premier-league and is still a decent age.
It’s his wages that would be the problem, listening to Villa fans where I live he’s on circa £120pw, considerably higher than our structure
At the end of the day it's a calculated risk I guess. Paying his wages for 6 months if it keeps us in the league - and what that might mean for us long term as this young squad learns and develops is a risk I'd be very willing for us to take. It's such an obvious position of need. Permanent transfer is a different conversation.
£120k p/w from now through the end of the year also isn't all that much in the grand scheme. It's a little less than £2.9m at this point. Relatively low risk expenditure that. A permanent deal, with him on the wrong side of 30, with his injury history and wage demands? Absolutely not.
Yeah I'd only consider a perm if it was an 18 month deal with a 50% wage drop in event of relegation. Can't see why he'd accept that though.
It has all gone rather quiet considering we've heard could be as many as 4 more (though I'd be shocked if we brought in that many). I know Alcaraz was only announced a few days ago but we knew we were interested and bidding a week or two before we landed him. Obviously not all transfers we hear about way in advance, but considering the number of players that we are supposedly still interested in bringing in, and our strong need for a striker, you'd think there would be a little more in the way of rumours!
