I understand what you are trying to get at, but in my opinion to predjudice the entire British armed forces over the stuff that occurred in Northern Ireland is a tad harsh.. Not that I am in anyway trying to justify what went on there.. Equally would the fact the your opinion is based on the actions of a few in Northern Ireland mean that you agree with the bombing of shopping centres and city centres in England?? I'd assume and hope not. For the most part (excluding Northern Ireland ) the British armed forces have been an integral part in making this world slightly less **** than it would be if we as a country didn't intervene in certain things..
Guilt everyone into raising funds to help our wounded and veterans get the support they need so the folk that shipped them off in the first place have to! The whole poppy idea although well intentioned has become a farce, charity donations should be a personal choice and a private matter. The poppy day thing has become something very different.
Do kids these days that play war pretend to be the English and Germans any more or do they sit miles away from each other and pretend to launch pre-emptive attacks using long range missiles? Were you a machine gunner or a pistol shooter when playing war? You either gripped your fists one in front of the other and went "dudududududududdddrrrr" like a machine gun or made a gun shape with your two fingers and thumb (or one finger and thumb if you are Gambol) and went "pyiow pyiow" in a shooting motion. Oh the good old days where you used to have fun with all your mates in the woods using just your fists and fingers and a bit of imagination.
I believe those who object to wearing the poppy should be rounded up and sent into our next international conflict. See how long it takes them to change their minds about wearing it.
Folk who get worked up about the poppy, on either side, are plainly ****s. It's a wee bit of red and green plastic that gets pinned to yer jumper FFS.
Probably smashed a few back doors in then. You talk about respect and then describe the old woman collecting as "the old bint with a bucket" It's quite clear that this fear is a major issue for you, otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned it. Nothing to be ashamed of Tobias.
"Kiss cuddle or torture" was the game we played when we were kids. Social services would get involved, ye'd be on the sex offenders register and ye'd get sent to a young offenders institution for playing that now. Or maybe that was just the way we played it.
Does it though? It only represents the meaning that society has arbitrarily assigned to it. Having respect for those who fought and died, in whatever conflict, doesn't have to be defined by a wee badge. Basically the badge is for arseholes to prattle on about how much they care. You put a poond in a box and got a plastic poppy. Well done
My comment was actually sarcasm but it does stand for more than just showing others you wear it. It's for remembering those that gave their lives for these beautiful countries.
I usually don't need a bit of red and green plastic to help me remember things. I remember things by remembering them. It's a good system I've got on the go
