Paterson's trying to use his wife's suicide as a shield and claiming that the investigation lead to her death.
I've yet to see anything that supports that, but I would point out something that I doubt was an accident.
    From Wikipedia:
    Owen William Paterson.
    Born: 24 June 1956

Rose Paterson. Died: 24 June 2020.

Owen Paterson has resigned. In before he's lobbed into the House of Lords.

And the real reason for nobbling the standards committee has been revealed.
Bodger's holiday was paid for by Goldsmith's family. Nice knighthood you got there, mate. <ok>

Ennobled to enable him to then be made a Minister, after he was unceremoniously kicked out of Richmond by the LibDems.
****ing stench of corruption is nauseating!

I am of the opinion that any labour leader that loses ground to the tories in the last 2 years is a clueless moron.
I personally find it difficult to be enthusiastic about labour after they successfully destroyed public sector workers pensions while accusing us of being money grabbing.
I generally hate elections cos most of the time I find myself voting against something rather than for something because no party puts forward a manifesto I can support.
Corbyn was the closest to what I thought.

I get people may not agree with me but I find it an insult to the history of the Labour Party that Starmer is it's leader.

In essence I agree. However I would have Starmer over Johnson any day and everyone that hates the current Govt should keep that in mind imo. I would vote for almost anyone if it helped get the current bunch of bandits out of power.

He took a knighthood....I am completely against that stuff. It is elitist and runs contrary to why the Labour Party was formed.

He is also a Blairite. I have no time for Blair's beliefs and have no time for a Labour leader that wants to follow in his footsteps.

I have no expectations that anyone agrees with me and certainly do not slag off other who feel differently.
I have a tendency to see things in black and white which can irritate others so I apologise if I come across arrogantly.

You don't upset me, RCL. Far from it. I'm far more belligerent and annoying! <laugh>

Blair got a few major things wrong, but he got one very important thing right: Getting elected.
I doubt he'd actually manage that now though, in the current climate.

I see where you're coming from, but like others on here I might be more pragmatic on Starmers qualities, because the alternatives (to the left of the Party?) all lead to further years of Tory domination.
I don't agree with the Honours system at all, but he was knighted before entering Parliament for his work in the CPS and other Labour leaders (Wilson and Callaghan included) have been knighted / enobled.

Personally I find it hard to trust the motivations of just about every politician! <laugh>

    Socialism doesn’t win elections.
PNP is right; Blair was a success because he managed to win elections - and to do that he had to sell a Tory-lite form of socialism. He managed to combine ‘80s market economics with ‘70s public spending, which ultimately cost Brown and Labour when borrowing spiralled.
We will never have a government in this country able to deliver what suits the middle 60% - which is market economy with a social conscience, because it’s never sustainable.

And we won't get even close to that without PR. FPTP just accentuates the problem - and with the current state of UK politics will empower the Tories for at least a generation. And only another term in Gov could see the UK descend into a one-Party state as they will be able to legislate for their own success.

One of the memorable things about COPOUT26 was the Queen’s comments about the importance of saving the planet etc, blah, blah, blah.
The same Queen who needs to live in a number of massive homes at the same time, fly around the world and quite recently, refurbish the royal yacht Britannia. Because you really need a great big f***ing yacht, don’t you?

She needs several large houses so
a.) She can hide Andrew in any number of cupboards
b.) Kate keeps trying to kick her cane out from under her on the stairs

It's sustainable if it's planned that way and we don't elect the Tory saboteurs to **** it up all the time.
They tell everyone that governments don't work and then set about proving that hypothesis.
