I've found that this is something that they do well and it gets them criticism. They'll publish opinion pieces that don't align with the general views of the paper.

Freeman deleted her defence of it on Twitter. Seems to be a theme.
It was rather TERFy and sounded more like something people would say about trans athletes, bizarrely.

Has he explained this? No one is that stupid (surely) but I can't think what else he could mean. Playing Devil's advocate, I guess he meant the new administration is not as inward looking as they should be, they have the audacity to care about the whole world, not just America only.
