It shouldn't be any surprise that the Tories' policy for coronavirus puts economics before welfare. But Boris is looking more like King Canute every day. Ultimately the policy will probably hurt the economy more if greater numbers end up being affected.
You do know that policy has come from a COBRA meeting which is "cross party" and usually addressed by the pre-eminent experts in which ever field is being discussed?
My local down here in West Cork closed this evening indefinitely. Its the heart of the community in many ways, but shutting this week of all weeks will be devastating for their business. But no choice...
Have you noticed Corbyn screaming about the policy? of all the people in the world he would be first to make hay on this but.........nothing. He was in the COBRA meeting and probably has more insight into the problem than any on here.
Why are we at odds with the policy of almost every other country then? Advisers give advice; governments make decisions. Often the advice is tailored to consider the option the government wants to implement. I think it's naive to believe that there has been some holistic approach to this. Avoiding ecomonic meltdown has been the driving force - as futile as it now looks.
Glad to hear you say that: https://news.sky.com/story/coronavi...ng-well-behind-the-curve-on-covid-19-11958076
Canute was much maligned but its now believed his famous act was actually to prove the fallibility of man, rather than try and defeat the tides.... But that might just be Government disinformation!
So he is not too happy about being told to self isolate but is happy to follow government advice ref washing hands
Maybe because they are blatantly not working? Have you seen the number of cases and deaths in places like Italy and Spain?
And there would be countless more if people were able to make contract freely with others as that's how the virus spreads. The idea of a lockdown is that through isolation the chances of slowing down the spread are improved. The high number of cases/deaths isn't a consequence of the policy - it's the other way round.
China just replied to you in defence of the UK govt with the following : imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Unless of course your intent is to say it will work as well for the UK as it has done for the economy of China ...
Luckily for us that isn't a problem - as most car plants pulled out of the country in the last three years, even though Arron Banks assured us that they wouldn't...
I wonder if the Irish will be running garden hoses from the pubs to their homes on "that day"? Can't waste all that beer!
