Somebody should probably tell the proven liar's dad that those illiterate plebs only need to put an X on the ballot...
Terror attack close to a general election. Just me that is suspicious of the timing? Also why is it always bridges that these things happen on?
The party of law and order have ensured that the police are equipped to deal with it. An officer will be round in 3 weeks time to take a statement. It would help if any CCTV could be saved.
Terrorists learn quickly. They no longer shout "Trans women are not women" when they are planning/attempting to kill people (who wants Plod immediately on their backs ?? ) .
2017 London Bridge Attack: June 3rd. 2017 General Election: June 8th. 2019 London Bridge Attack: November 29th. 2019 General Election: December 12th. Probably just a coincidence, but that's a little odd, isn't it?
I can’t recall who said it but I read a quote somewhere saying - coincidences take a lot of planning
Members of the public tackled the guy to the ground and disarmed him, then the cops waded in and shot the bloke in the head Of course the important matter is getting their story straight about how the bloke was wearing what appeared to be a suicide vest and not your average Superdry gilet...
Actually I think it's the over concentration on anti-terrorist policing that has exacerbated problems with funding for the rest of the police. Because they ringfenced funding for anti-terrorism the effect on cuts to the rest of the police budget were actually worse than they might have been. And frankly anti-terrorist expenditure doesn't have a great effect on the majority of the population, only on the most spectacular of crimes. So what do you want? Avoid a spectacular newsworthy death, or just not to be the victim of crime in general? The politicians of course don't let anyone have grown up choices because it's all done in the interest of our security. In fact no sooner has a politician declared that a terrorist will never affect our way of life they are announcing some new restriction of our freedom all in the name of security. Personally I value my liberties and am prepared to accept a lower level of anti-terrorism "protection" in order to retain them - but I'll never get that choice.
Terrorism is portrayed as some modern day phenomenon, which the authorities should treat as a special case. Hence the many laws giving increased powers in the last few years. The reality is that terrorism has always been around and the threat posed by the IRA and other paramilitaries at the height of their activities was surely greater. The irony is that if there was more local, grassroots policing, the police would have greater knowledge of who posed a threat in communities and might be better equipped to identify terrorists at an earlier stage. Much high profile policing these days seems to be in response to events after they happen. Protection from and prevention of crime would be ways of spending money.
Terrorism is political and impacts the lives of politicians in various ways. Two people being stabbed in London isn't really news, unfortunately. Two people being stabbed in London by a terrorist is headline news for days, at the very least. That's assuming that it's not a couple of politicians that get stabbed, too.
What nobody seems willing or able to understand is that the British public are more than willing to demonstrate that terror attacks are having their desired effect, yet they don't even seem to be aware of it For one obvious example, remember a couple of years ago when somebody crashed their car onto the pavement outside the Natural History Museum? The immediate response form the public was to assume it was a terror attack, with the usual suspects among the right wing commentariat gleefully telling their brainless followers that's exactly what it was, when in reality it was a bloke trying to overtake at speed and losing control of his car Twenty years ago nobody would have automatically assumed it was a terror attack, but now it's the first assumption of an awful lot of people, while others try and portray any event (see also: the 2014 Glasgow bin lorry crash) as some kind of terror attack the government don't want us to know about A large part of the blame can be placed on the widespread belief post-9/11 that terrorism is only about killing people, which simply is not the case and never has been - the point of terrorism isn't the casualties the action causes but to intimidate and shatter morale, and every time somebody tries to make out some innocuous event is a terror attack they're showing that the populace is intimidated and have had their morale shattered
Well here you go again America. You kicked out mad King George 3 because he was above the law. Now it's time to kick out mad Dictator Trump 1 for the same reason. Time to take back and rescue America? No. We've got loonies in Britain too!
