I actually feel a tiny bit of sympathy for her. Referring to people as "black" was deemed to be offensive - it was too in your face and usually inaccurate for people whose skin colour was brown. So "coloured" was the preferred term as it was seen as softer, more neutral, less offensive. But when people took offence at that, we reverted to "black" again. The lesson to be learned by Rudd (or anyone else) is not to refer to any person by reference to their skin colour. To do so is offensive per se. There are plenty of ways to refer to Diane Abbott - derogatory or otherwise - without mentioning it at all.
Unfortunately for Rudd, she'd be unable to refer to Abbott as somebody with bad numerical skills considering her track record of telling the police conference their average salary is at least £15k more a year than it actually is...
I hadn't heard the interview and she's actually trying to defend Abbott against the abuse that she receives, rather ironically. Poor choice of words to do so, but she's clearly not being offensive and is trying to highlight a problem. She was asked about online abuse of MPs: "It definitely is worse if you’re a woman. And it’s worst of all if you’re a coloured woman. I know that Diane Abbott gets a huge amount of abuse, and I think that’s something we need to continue to call out.” Given that she's apologised for it, I'd say that she doesn't deserve much stick, honestly.
It's another case of Neesonitis, where somebody bungles trying to say something so badly the conversation moves on to how they managed to say something so far beyond moronic you're asking if they actually heard themselves say it
As Karen Bradley makes a late bid to be 'Cabinet Idiot of the Year'...... They're queuing up for the award!!
I'm legitimately terrified by the fact that one publisher actually believes that there's a market for Nadine Dorries's short novels...
Naughty judge feels sorry for a habitual criminal in USA.Give him 4 years. Probably would have got Capone and Hitler off!
Absolutely ludicrous stuff. Reagan appointed judge gives his mate less than four years, when the recommendation was 19-24. Fines him $50,000 when the top end was $24m. Blatant corruption.
Not impressed. From Pensioners to Oilwells. As a Labour fan,did Lord Attenborough attend the House of Lords,I wonder (and state his case...….!!!!?)
What with May and Trump screwing up something and much hot air coming out of their mouths......it must be a wonderful time to be a news reporter......if you can stand the crap!
I see Sajid Javed has been denounced by Diane Abbott for the death of Shamima Begums baby. Well she denounced the UK when she joined ISIS, so it's 1:1. Will it go to extra time or straight to penalties?
The Independent Group PLC have announced the first thing that could actually be construed as a policy: bringing back national service. I see that Chuka Umunna prefers the UKIP manifesto over the Labour one...
It will happen, trust me on that one. Let's train the young kids so they know how to kill each other most efficiently.
