But a speadsheet jockey can prove/disprove anything depending on what they include/omit. The normal excuse is 'you can't make an allowance for that, nobody does'. My argument is, 'as it always happens, why don't people make an allowance for it'. A typical one was with Caterpillar gearboxes. We were working in mountainous topography and the Dump Truck gearboxes were lasting between 2000 and 4500 hours. The accountants spreadsheet had 12000 hours until replacement. I said look, we have had 40 dump trucks and the best we have achieved is 4500 hours, where do you get 12000 hours from. 'Caterpillar published data' came back from the spreadsheet jocky. Incredible!
The rail industry has a similar aversion to common sense when it comes to purchasing rolling stock For example, if Southern wanted to buy an eight-carriage train, you would think the order would look like this 2x engine 4x regular carriages 1x carriage with toilet 1x carriage with disabled toilet ...in other words, one bulk order that could potentially have discounts based on the number of units purchased However, that's not how it works, instead the order would look like this 1x engine ...then a second order would look like this... 1x engine... ...then a third order would look like this... 1x regular carriage ...and so on, meaning they have to make eight separate orders that is not only grossly inconvenient and considerably more time consuming, but because each order is made individually it eliminates any chance of receiving a discount for bulk ordering, and that's insane If anyone's curious where I got this from, it was reported in Private Eye a few years ago - and as I know a couple of people employed by Southern, I mentioned this to them and they both said it was 100% accurate
Today on Planet Leave, emergency Boris Michael Fabricuant said the UK would be fine after Britait because Greenland is fine and they're not in the EU Greenland is a country of 55,877 who mainly export seafood while charging the GDP of a east African nation for a bottle of beer Britain a little bit more complex than that...
Is it Denmark or a country close where they vote by computer to get the non voter vote? I hope that makes sense....
Estonia, where every citizen has an electronic ID card so they can simply type in their ID number online and cast their vote The interesting thing about this system is that votes aren't considered final until the final day of voting, so voters can actually change their vote...although I dread to see that system in this country, considering how election day in this country sees the Murdoch press push the boat out with any attempt to convince their loyal peons that voting Tory is the way forward
Fekking trial of David Duckenfield for the Hillsborough tragedy are still trying to blame the Police. Fekking Bollocks, Spurs fans nearly suffered the same **** the season before. The police can only deal with the situation that they are given, the FA are guilty for fencing the fans in. Any fekking risk assessment would say no fekking way Jose. I feel more than sorry for the mousers, but for fek sake the FA are 99.999% to blame.
I think the Government of the day were so disconnected from those who go to football that they thought of them as animals and no doubt privately were full of glee to find the fans in cages. But I think because the cages are out of the experience of so many that are now hearing about the case, they have not received nearly enough prominence in their contribution to this disaster. Basically the police can get it as wrong as they like, but if the fans can spill onto the pitch they avoid death. Simple as that. Sure there were exits from the cages, but nothing practical given the crush and the number of people that needed to get out. The fact is those people died because they had nowhere to go. The cage introduced an additional barrier that simply was not part of the stadium design, and either nobody thought through the implications, or ignored evidence as to what might happen. So as you say, those responsible for the cages are at least as culpable as the police here.

Bloody hell, sitting on a train home I happened to overhear the average Croydonians' take on yesterday's IRA-linked bomb scares at Heathrow and Waterloo Within a minute of hearing two moronic bumblefucks repeatedly refer to the IRA as a Scottish group before deciding the best way to continue the discussion was to start singing "**** the IRA" over and over at the top of their lungs as if there wasn't a trainload of people sitting around them I started to consider signing up as a Sinn Fein supporter...
