It would identify the worst 'brood mare' constituencies though
(as mandatory voting means they are very unlikely to vote
"non of the above" ) .

On the other hand there's a glaring flaw: case in point, the residents of Epsom & Ewell would know Chris Grayling was the Tory candidate on the ballot because he's Transport Secretary/regularly in the news due to his constant ****ups, so it wouldn't eradicate people blindly voting for the rosette rather than the broom handle behind it

    No regime is perfect.
So I am following the Pareto principle (X% of something can be accounted for /
dealt with by (100-X)% of something else) .

The 'brood mare' constituencies are a problem for opposing parties.
A small number of them are obvious, but with low voter turnout in general tis
difficult to know which others might (not) be (so the regime would help identify
those as a beneficial side effect) .

  4. No matter what, the current Party political process is broken, with nasty, bigoted, extremes with xenophobic and/or racist agendas ruling both the Tories (ergo the Government) and Labour (currently driven by the generally unpalatable and unelectable Momentum/Corbyn clans).

This new Independent Group may well not be the way forward and nothing will change until the FPTP system is gone, but this sniping at the 'deserters' seems a bit petty and overly defensive abd stems from the insecurity in both camps. Bit like blaming a blocked toilet on the turds you've just left rather than your diet or the failure to maintain the plumbing....

The issue for me is that neither of the two major parties have proved capable or committed to dealing with the single biggest self-inflicted disaster that this country has faced in recent memory.

For that alone, neither deserve to be considered credible and will likely continue to lose the support of the general public. Well, at least the 25% of the populous capable of rational thought.

    Rant over......

As expected, Joan Ryan has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office for accessing the Labour member's database after resigning the party, claims supported by
a.) Her sending out a mass e-mail to local members after she resigned
b.) Members of the mailing list have claimed to have received material from The Independent Group Ltd via e-mail

Of course, this isn't a problem for The Independent Group Ltd as they have neither a disciplinary procedure nor a framework where people are able to complain about their members, but that's not important right now...

Oh for the calm days of Harold Wilson. He only had minor things like Ian Smith and Ted Heath to worry about!(?)

  7. This wonderful Tweet from 2016 gets an occasional airing. As true today, if not truer.
What a complete clusterfuck May has overseen....

The biggest issue with the Dire Leader is there has never been any vision or plan to anything she does, as her position has always been based on what she thinks will keep her in power for another week - which while it can work in the short term in much the same way a caretaker manager can carry a team through the last couple of months of a season, it's not sustainable long-term as she's been demonstrating ever since she flushed her majority and her mandate in a fit of hubris

That's how Chuka Umunna's going to be caught out sooner rather than later, because just like May he's got a history of not having a vision on any subject and changes tack depending on which he thinks will give him better PR (the most obvious u-turns being his stating there should be no second referendum, there is no deep-rooted antisemitism within Labour, and he absolutely would not break away as doing so would keep the Tories in power for another term) so while h may be getting good press this week it's not going to last, not just because of Angela Smith's gaffe and Joan Ryan's illegal activities, but when Anna Soubry's talking about maintaining "marvelous" austerity that's where the cracks become so clear you have to be trying hard to not see them

Looking forward to seeing how she insults people's intelligence by saying she didn't know what she did was wrong, even though her mass e-mail made several references to her having resigned

But, as I said before, as The Independent Neoliberal Group of Egotists (or TINGE for short) have no disciplinary procedure whatsoever, it's not like she'll get as much as a light tap on the wrist

And Vietnam. Wilson looks better and better as history passes. Standing up to the USA and refusing to send British troops to Vietnam should not be underestimated. We have not had a prime minister since with those kind of balls.

p.s. A poll says 88% of Republicans are satisfied with Trump! Say what?

  15. This is a good example of why Labour is falling on its arse and displays Corbyns underlying vindictive streak that succour the more extreme elements of the party.

Going after Soubry is an act of idiocy as it only reinforces the belief that he is Mays stooge pushing the Brexit disaster. Even McDonnell has recognised that, FFS!

Soubry's majority at the last election: 863

It's a marginal seat where the (formerly...) Tory MP has likely split the vote, so only an idiot would not get onto that PDQ, which is whySheffield & Penistone needs to be on the agenda given Angela Smith's wafer-thin majority. A vindictive move would be for Corbyn to hold a rally in any of Streatham, Liverpool Wavertree, Ilford South, Nottingham East, Stockport, Luton South or Enfield North considering the majorities that Labour gained in those constituencies in the last election that the sitting MPs seem to believe were actually gained all because their names were on the ballot.

If you want vindictive, start with members of The Infiltration Group Ltd saying they'd support The Dire Leader in a No Confidence vote

As today is election day in Nigeria, let's see if they're conducting themselves without the appalling levels of toxicity seen in US and UK politics

    Goddamn it...

Based on their recent votes more of them think she's fit to lead the country than lead the party, which sums up the Tory mentality nicely...

    In lighter news...

The Orange Overlord has said that American companies need to step up their efforts to make 6G technology the standard for American industry at the risk of being left behind if they don't...even though 6G technology does not actually exist

Closer to home, Jeremy ...Hunt described Slovenia as a "Soviet vassal state" when meeting with Slovenian foreign secretary Miro Cerar, which drew quite a lot of comment in Slovenia given their people have a much better grasp of which country was in the former Soviet Union and which country was in Yugoslavia than the current Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom. Then again, this is the same person who said his Chinese wife is Japanese on a visit to China last year, but let's ignore than and bang on about Diane Abbott flubbing her sums two years ago...
