The Independent Group PLC have announced a major coup: Joan Ryan, the Enfield North MP who responded to losing a No Confidence vote last year by throwing one hell of a hissy fit on Twitter, who was caught on camera falsely accusing people of antisemitism Funnily enough those details are getting as much coverage as anti-Corbyn hack (currently being serialised in the Daily Wail) Tom Bower using an anti-semitic slur on Good Morning Britain the other day...
My constituency. 1. Consider it a bit of Nemesis to the Labour "brood mare" sheeple who should have voted to keep her out in 2015 as punishment for her imposition as Labour candidate (tribalism = VERY short memories eh) . 2. Another one scheduled for de-selection by the "new" Labour membership ??
She's little more than a palette swap of Frank Field: parachuted in as a candidate (after long-time Labour candidate Martin Upham resigned from the part after Blair attempted to revoke Clause IV, among other things), was never seen on the streets of Enfield barring the two to three weeks prior to a General Election, and voters adopting the belief of holding your nose while voting for them They even share the same scandals, with both featuring prominently during the expenses row, and both caught taking bribes
The expenses row was what mainly cost her the seat in 2010. After 13 yrs as a serving MP, once you are out perhaps the rules need to be changed so you stay out (God knows WTF she was up to in those 5 years) .
That's another thing that connects Allen and Field: constituents should have more of a say on who their MP is because the current system not only means that once they're there you're stuck with them until they resign or are voted out, and more than that under the current system the only way to change your party MP is to trigger a No Confidence vote - yet this is hardly effective given Ryan lost one and kept her seat long enough to join The Independent Group Ltd, Kate Hoey lost one and the muesli-faced bigot is still there attempting to restart The Troubles one vote at a time, Luciana Berger was facing one and played the victim card to get the vote pulled before also justifying the call by running off to TIG Ltd, while Frank Field jumped before the vote so he could claim he didn't lose The fact that both Doug Carswell and Jim Reckless chose to call a by-election after swapping the Tories for UKIP, yet Chuka & Co have ruled it out, doesn't do much for their integrity either...
In fairness, I suspect the UKIPers had done their "grass roots" sampling and knew the constituencies would vote that way in a by-election (otherwise IMHO they would have done the same as this lot) . Anyway, the interest turns to whether any Tories are on the cliff edge pondering whether to jump ...
The Standard was predicting Anna Soubry, Sarah Wollaston and Heidi Allen are preparing to jump...although given Soubry's track record of saying she's going to do something only to fall in line with the Tories anyway, I'll believe that when I see it
It's a momentous day in British politics: Anna Soubry actually goes through with what she claims she'll do As opposed to the countless times she didn't, but the FBPE mob held her up as a bastion for their increasing deranged crusade...
Is it possible that Brexit might end up shaking up British politics for the better? I don't necessarily think the MPs who are breaking away from the main parties have the answers to our problems, but they might force both the Tories and Labour to become more moderate. As posters have said, we need more moderate politics. We can't have a right wing government not being held to account (despite a lack of a majority). We can't have a weak opposition who are unlikely to be elected to power. Whatever your politics, you can't deny that the only kind of government that works in our country is a right of centre one with a commitment to social justice or a left of centre one which embraces capitalism. We have neither at present. And still wouldn't whatever the outcome an a election. A shake up is needed; let's hope it gains momentum and takes us somewhere.
Britain Elects says The Independent Group Ltd will get 10% of the vote at the next election 11 seats out of 650 is not 10%...
Some of them need to be facing a by-election now. Perhaps one each from their former party, drawn from the bag.
Ryan lost a vote of No Confidence, Berger ducked one by claiming the antisemites were bullying her and her unborn baby, and Woolaston jumped before one was called I'd say those were good places to start...
I think that you are correct Luke, the answer in in the balance. Unfortunately, all 650 of the current MP's are unbalanced, so it doesn't matter who is there, we are fekked. Vote Guido Fawkes.
