The Politics Thread

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Wandering Yid, Feb 9, 2016.

  1. John Oliver was in sparkling form in the season-ending edition of Last Week Tonight.
Included an analysis of the 'Trump' tactics to deflect and troll - including a reminder of this incredible performance by POTUS (even by his standards) when asked to explain totally illegitimate and inflammatory claims against Obama.....

    http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/trump-cuts-cbs-intervew-short-wiretapping-1202404816/

Its all pretty worrying, but from 8 minutes in it gets quite ridiculous!

Unfortunately most of Trumps crap is on the table, sweeping it under the table would be a good result but yes it appears that he gets away with some appalling stuff SO FAR.

Anyone watching the Trump documentary series on C4 ??

It only takes up to about two thirds of part 2 to see where
the utter c**t he is today was fully formed (part 1 was the
birth of his "fake news" strategy formation) .

    Something something war against masculinity.

Yes, I have actually seen people use the term "war against masculinity" to try and shout down any debate about sexual harassment or domestic abuse.

Technically he is correct (depending on your
definition of "employee" - it is true for mine) .

Is your definition the one that says you've got an autumn budget to compile and you forgot how Excel works?

Mine says "employee" = worker for whom the work provider
pays employee NIC + sickness/vacation costs.

Therefore you can be in work but not "employed" .

Yes, but you can also be out of work entirely and that would make you unemployed, surely?

If you are not retired and are currently not working,
then you are currently "out of (paid) work" .

IMHO the "worker" is now the unit of human resource
(and therefore govt statistical measure) . An employee
is (an increasingly threatened) class of worker whose
work provider has made / undertaken certain
    financial commitments/obligations.

Of course, with everyone focusing on Hammond's non-statistic about unemployment, everyone's overlooking his refusal to pledge an emergency £4bn injection for the NHS, stating that claims of a crisis are greatly exaggerated.

In other words, his entire interview on Marr sounded a lot like this...

Here's the headline to an article on The Sun's website

Here's the actual story, buried right at the bottom of the same article, which 99% of Sun readers will never read as their prejudices have already been confirmed and they're no doubt huffing about immigrants at the local Wetherspoons

Saturday's edition of the Daily Wail included a promotion with Paperchase, offering readers two free rolls of wrapping paper - a promotion that led to a backlash, not least from the Stop Funding Hate group, which has led to Paperchase issuing the following apology

Of course the Wail responded to this by huffing and puffing about "bullying" - a subject the Wail is only too familiar with given how that's the best description of their average front page...

There's supposed to be a scandal going on because some of Trump's allies have called him an idiot behind his back.
Have you heard him speak? It's gibberish. He's clearly not all there.
How is this remotely surprising to anyone that's heard him talk for more than about 10 seconds?
