So the SNP with nearly 3 times the number of seats won by the Tories have lost? If people voted Tory in Scotland because they didn't want a another referendum then 3 times that number do. Talk about playing with numbers.
My constituency nearly changed hands! My vote nearly counted! Actually the best result I've had having voted in elections since 1979... Ironically that the Tories might stay in power because of the seats they won in Scotland, and the backing of the DUP who are more Tory than the Tories! But I think the gap is smaller than it appears. That 2.5% difference in the Tory vote over Labour (about 700,000 votes) is nothing in the big scheme of things (basically each Tory MP needed fewer votes than each Labour one) and if I were them I wouldn't be calling another snap election anytime soon. I would also be doing the boundary changes asap as that would get them more seats without getting any more votes due to the wonderous nature of our "democratic" system.
The numbers will be in soon enough for the Scotland constituencies (drops in % turnout for constituencies, seat losses vs change in turnout etc) . Some cursory info already : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2017-40190856
The first thing of note is that of the 20 constituencies that have changed hands, where the incumbent MP had the largest majority *** in the previous election, 15 of them were held by the SNP. *** of at least 6000

That of the 21 constituencies lost by the SNP, 15 of them were where they were defending majorities of at least 6000.
Are you going to release your pearls a drop at a time? Or just continue with your ambiguous comments.
Hammond could end up the front runner....... Will fit the model for the 1922 far closer and less risky than BoJo
The man is a troll. And not the better kind of troll who occasionally says something clever or funny, either. He's a crap troll, who bangs on about the same hateful and nonsensical things and constantly misquotes or misunderstands reasonable people out of some combination of sheer malice, limitless ignorance and a pathetic need for attention.
I understand the Unionists (Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems) combined polled more votes than the SNP. Correct me if I am wrong but that's what they said on the TV this morning. To me that looks like the Scots are being sensible and not risking another referendum right now. Far better to wait for the T's & C's of the Brexit deal then go for it. The SNP actually had a pretty poor night. Most people expected them to lose a few seats but to lose an ex leader and their leader in Westminster must ring a few alarm bells.
Nothing ambiguous whatsoever. The SNP have been spanked in 15 constituencies that were hardly on a knife edge. Further "numbers" (not immediately to hand) on turn-out will reveal whether that is the root cause of the spanking, or whether the SNP blather on independence etc is annoying the electorate. So until those "numbers" easily come to hand, spanking it is.
Nick Clegg made a pretty dignified speech following his defeat in Sheffield Hallam. Sir Nick or Lord Clegg of Clogg methinks in the pretty near future.
He's another that falls into the general 'decent individual' category. Yes, he'll always be labeled for the tuition fee back turn, but at least did apply the brakes to what might otherwise have been an extreme Tory agenda.......
Yes it's not a democratic system it's first past the post. As regards the election it was not about an Independence referendum that was purely a tactic used by the Conservatives. No doubt that worked where they won seats by bring together Unionists. However the bigger issue was the EU and that is what many people were voting about. The SNP expected to lose votes because some of their members want out of EU and other want in, this split the vote. Unionists are delighted to use the results in Scotland as a No vote for Independence. The reality is that Scotland is still split down the middle. Talk to me about Independence when the next referendum is under way in 2 years time and it become the central issue rather than just a ploy from Unionists.
