Meanwhile, in New York, the NYPD somehow turn somebody dodging a $2.90 subway fare into a mass shooting that left three civilians and one cop severely injured I wonder how Taylor Swift is going to be blamed for this
Here's a thought. If Trump get's in....does his young supporters realise they will have to support their retired parents when Trump cuts Social Security and Healthcare?...so he can give valuable billions to billionaires? TURN OVER BEETHOVEN!
You'd think the BBC wouldn't miss an obvious headline like "Israel puts explosive devices in civilians pagers" and frame the story in a way that makes it clear that they indiscriminately detonated explosive devices all over Lebanon without caring who may have been holding them, but you'd be wrong...
Whilst technology has advanced at a pace, human nature is a very gradual process. Are we any more advanced in our morality/ethics/tolerance/prejudices than at any time in the last however many hundred years? In fact, there are many reasons to think we have regressed. The more sophisticated we get, the more primitive our attitudes become.
Not sure I agree. There has always been 30 to 40% of people in most western countries who have, for whatever reason, racist attitudes. The advance of social media just means that 1) We hear their voices more than before and 2) There’s a bunch of people spending all their time goading them into action
The problem in England is that, the bunch of people are in government and control the media. Government by the people for the people has become Government by the greedy for the greedy.
I hope the current government will be an improvement. Before social media took a hold, Labour were able to have a sensible approach to race relations, and the Tories generally were not trying too hard to appeal to the racists at least explicitly. The current problem is that immigration has been at an historic high despite people having a lot of concerns about this. The concerns are almost 100% based on an incorrect understanding of the effects of immigration (which are actually very positive) but they get continually amplified by right wing main stream media and their allies on social media. The outcome is that being 'soft' on immigration makes you unelectable despite it being the right policy. So I can see why Labour are positioned where they are...hopefully their actions will be different to their rhetoric. They have the same issue on EU membership of course where the current consensus is that it's antidemocratic to rejoin despite a majority now thinking we should.
Here is what happens when you vote for people who are NOT party members and therefore 'controlled'. If England had not once again bought the lies of the major parties and supported them we might, just might, have had a more democratic government. https://x.com/i/status/1836335720614494304 Vote for people like Zara and we might even get democracy.
