And it’s not just the people they assume are feckless spongers who are affected, it’s those with skills valuable to the economy too. 7 million are waiting for operations; countless more are waiting to be seen for tests and procedures to diagnose conditions, who will then be waiting too to be treated - and whose conditions will doubtless be worse by that time. These are huge numbers of people ; they are not all the stereotypical scrounges Sunak is trying to demonise.
