This right wing media and government narrative trying to equate peaceful protests calling for a ceasefire with it being a bunch of criminals needs to be challenged. Nobody ever puts them right. Tens of thousands go on the march on Saturdays. There are a handful of arrests and not all of them are charged. In a number of instances those arrested are counter protestors trying to disrupt it. And to quote Chris Nineham, the vice-chair of Stop the War, “This is yet another example of the police attempting to criminalise Palestine protests and in the process chipping away at civil liberties. They are deliberately trying to raise tensions and to create the impression that people marching for peace and an end to a genocide are a threat to society. It’s an absolute disgrace.” Spot on

It's definitely the government. Coupled with the right wing media, they've whipped up the public with misinformation so that there's immense pressure on the police who tbf are reluctant to cave in.

Proud of them. Actually pretty proud of the country's response here They were threatened with 5 year bans by the Governing body if they refused to play the match, so made a stand this way. Minor gesture, but draws a fair bit of attention.
