    What would've been the point?
    "We demand this stuff!"
    "No." "Also no."

The point would have been that Benny the Blackshirt wouldn't continue to be enabled to carry on committing war crime after war crime

He absolutely would. It wouldn't have made the slightest impact on anyone.

Spinelessness would be failing to act when you can affect something.
This wouldn't have done anything. At all. It's just for those watching at home.

It would've sent a message to Israel and Hamas that the world is against both your barbaric actions.

It would've taken away the legitimacy of both in what they're doing. Of course it would've mattered less to Hamas, but would've been a huge signal to Israel. It does count.

Irony is I actually think the way it went wasn't great for the U.S. Being isolated like that puts more pressure on them.

Just a thought, but isn’t it more likely that those Gazans who survive will be far more pro- Hamas and anti Israel. The chances of any peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue will be further away than ever.
If the intention is to completely destroy Gaza, is the world just going to stand by? And during the lifetime of some who survived the Holocaust?

What you have to bear in mind is that when there's no conflict going on, literally no one cares.

So Israel as long as it has America's backing can cause as much death and destruction as they want knowing full well that when it's over and the dust settles, nobody will be talking about it after a few weeks.

Which of course leaves no hope and no option but for extremism and militancy to thrive within the Palestinians.

Neither the Israeli government nor Hamas and their foreign backers give a ****.
They're not going to be isolated, no matter how that vote went.
Religious fruitcakes on both sides are going for total annihilation and pressure means nothing.
If you've got God on your side, then the opinions of mortals are irrelevant.

It's not about Jews or Muslims or even Christians, it's about apocalyptic cults.
Jerusalem is the site of the endgame and it requires incredible violence.

What the UK says and does these days has little influence at a global level, but I'd prefer it took a stance supporting that outcome regardless of the ultimate chance of success.
I do think you underestimate the impact that the US overtly supporting the calls for a cease fire would have in Israel and would likely help bring to an end their indiscriminate and barbaric assault of Gaza.
Israel's cultist warmongering is bankrolled by the US. The vote may not have directly brought about a ceasefire, but it would have sent a message that may well have led to at least a reduction in the aerial bombardment and provide some opportunity for safe passage and humanitarian aid to be delivered safely.

The current situation is untenable and will lead to one of the worst genocides in modern history, if it hasn't already.

What really sticks out is how the the US and UK both suddenly seem to be okay with their citizens being killed if it happens to be Israel that's killed them, with 33 Americans and 7 Brits confirmed dead so far and a large chunk of them were journalists or working for either the UN or MSF, and yet where's the outcry?

That's why vetoing and/or abstaining is so utterly cowardly, because not only is that allowing Benny the Blackshirt to continue committing genocide in both Gaza and the West Bank (which continues to be overlooked), but the fact that a blind eye continues to be turned towards the amount of collateral damage is utterly baffling, because whenever a journalist or doctor was killed in the crossfire in Afghanistan, Iraq or Bosnia you knew all about it - but when the IDF do it? "What journalist?" is the response

MSF pulled no punches in this regard
