I'm in two minds about the House of Lords at the present , it has done some good work lately and is useful in allowing people in their field of experience to contribute to making or influencing laws
The thought that the swivel eyed loony MadNad will become a life peer for doing what ? Kissing Johnsons arse and making moon eyes at him in the Commons , this is so wrong and a new system is needed urgently
Johnsons father and MadNad make me sick in my mouth

They're just the tip of the iceberg, too, as the randy Honey Monster has been stuffing the Lords with as many people as he can find ever since he slithered into Downing Street just so this country is feeling the effects of his poisonous reign for decades to come

My worries about the H O Lords , if Johnson, Truss and Sunak get their way and stuff the hol it will be imbalanced and unable to fairly debate the issues

Which is why they're doing it. They hate democracy, even as loaded as it is now.

This is right out of the Trump playbook (and, for the sake of balance, the Reagan playbook): you might be out of office, but there's somebody who will be maintaining your policies for potentially decades after the fact

    Two things

1.) Why is this Roger Waters bullshit still being dragged out beyond the point of sanity?
    2) Why the hell is Starmer wading into it at the Board of Deputies' request?

I haven't seen anything antisemitic from him, exactly.
His views on Russia are predictably stupid, though.
If you're going to attack Israel it's probably best not to dress like this:

The most obnoxious thing about this complete bollocks is there's so many obvious lies from the people pushing the agenda, for example one comment that kept coming up was at the time Waters was dressed exactly like Bob Geldof was in The Wall over 40 years ago and the names of victims of dictators are screened, ranging from Anne Frank to Palestinians, he had a pig with a Star of David and Crescent floating around the arena...which is complete bollocks, as that second part did not happen at the show and there is a wealth of photographic and video evidence to prove it - just as there is photo and video evidence to show that offending pig (well there's a sentence...) was from shows a decade ago

Similarly there's attempts to say the crossed hammers are a fascist symbol - yet that symbol was on a set of Royal Mail stamps from a decade ago, yet there was no comment of that being a fascist symbol then, just as I'm going to assume there's no comment about this "fascist symbol" being emblazoned on a couple of open top buses in the East End this evening

While it is certainly true to say Waters has made some very ham-fisted allegories and analogies not just in the past but also the recent past, this painting of him as a raging antisemite was suspect from the second Dave Gilmour's wife tweeted that he's an antisemite back in February and Gilmour backed her up in a particularly cowardly way

Gee, no wonder I always preferred The Doors...

I'm not particularly familiar with Pink Floyd, but isn't it explicitly a fascist symbol in The Wall?
I know it was later nicked by white supremacists, as they're wont to do.
Isn't that why he's dressed as an SS officer? He's playing a character, surely?

It's a fascist symbol in the fiction of The Wall (which does need some distinction) but given there's Royal Mail stamps of it trying to say that it's a fascist symbol is opening that claim up to all manner of ridicule and, you know, potential litigation

In terms of the outfit, what really stands out is the outfit Waters is wearing is far less Naziesque than the outfit Geldof wore in the film.

If Waters walked out wearing that outfit in Berlin, he'd have a hell of a time arguing that his costume was symbolic, as the only difference would have been the armband. Instead the outfit is, while obviously implying fascism as fascists tend to wear long coats with their party iconography on them, it's definitely more symbolic than the film version

...that being said, Waters using an MP40 as a prop in Berlin is certainly lunkheaded, considering that was the Nazi's preferred SMG for the entirety of WWII. It would've been a better idea to use a Thompson, and film-ready versions are available in their WWII configuration on PropStore for under £400

    Pros
They provide some checks and balances for the government of the day, especially the less moderate ones like the present incumbents.
They have amongst them ex-politicians, judges etc who can bring some experience and insight into difficult or controversial issues or proposed laws

    Cons
The dubious nature of their appointment -either hereditary or because of the their loyalty to a particular political party means that most don’t have the independence and freedom of thought which would make them collectively so much more effective
Many are so old they don’t know or care….
