The BBC reporting that "less than half of England is now Christian".

It's the main story on their website...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63792408

Hidden away from from the headline is the fact that there has been a rise in those that say they do not believe in a god of any kind.

That's an interesting story tbh... has the Ukrainian War, The Poverty Crisis, Covid, Racism, Misogyny, homophobia, knife crime, the state of politics etc. caused this?

But instead ****ers will seize on this deliberately ambiguous headline and turn it into "we've been flooded by Muslims or foreign cultures etc".

How anyone thinks the BBC is left wing completely baffles me.
It's becoming more and more dishonest by the hour.

You're spot on about the BBC. It's following The Mail and Express in failing to report stories accurately or at all, when they don't like their content.

As far as falling religious numbers are concerned, my kids are confirmed atheists. They find the idea of the caring Christian god as laughable and the same goes for the vast majority of their friends. They see the monarchy, racism, marriage, genders and numerous other conventions in exactly the same way. I'm less surprised by the fall in numbers of people identifying as Christian, than I am that it's taken until now for it to happen.

I hope their generation strip religion out of the state, with a written constitution reflecting a modern nation in all its realities.

    No, it isn't.

To be an instance of what is known as journalist 'deceit by structure' ,
the information you cite would be stated close to the bottom of the
article, and definitely not in the first three sentences.

    Yesterday was Albanian independence day

My first clue was The Strand being choked up by Beemers and Mercs draped in Albanian flags honking their horns while the occupants leaned out of the windows with some choice words about Cruella Braverman...

For anyone that doesn't want to dig, the proportion of Muslims went from 4.9% to 6.5%.
I'm rather surprised that there are less Jews than Buddhists, Hindus or Sikhs.
I wonder if non-religious Jews make up a decent chunk of some other reply?

    More Satanists, please. :emoticon-0130-devil

    No real surprise.

Those of the faith of the Hebrew god are in a very small ERC group.

Hindu + Sikhs will be more numerous by population density.

Buddhism, like Christianity and Islam. has quire a wide
geographical span (which will be expressed in ERC groups) .

The headline is designed to mislead imo.

Many choose to read only the headlines and then draw up their "view".

That's how so many lies have become "facts".

The BBC (again, imo) is shifting to the right wing at an alarming rate and this headline is yet another terrible piece of disingenuous journalism. I have always thought the license fee was important and have no issue with different opinions but can not abide deceit dressed up as journalism.
