They can double it on higher basic salaries (the cap is 2x their basic salaries) which can work out to be more if the basic is higher. It doesn't matter what I think mate, only what they do. And I've heard a fair few saying it this week.
Some news channels will provide some scrutiny, but even then I just find it weird that the questions and the focus of those questions is the same from one news outlet to the next. Nobody seems to be able to think for themselves.
I would think most news outlets go with the most populists questions, the one's their "researchers" tell them people want answers to. Unfortunately not everyone gets their particular question asked
I wonder whether the bloke on ITV doesn't just watch the questions on Sky who watches the questions on BBC who reads the questions in the Telegraph and so on. And seeing as governments over the past 20 years have been releasing what they're going to announce to the media hours/days before the actual announcement, I wouldn't be surprised if all the news outlets don't discuss it at some level. They're mostly all clones.
Like i said, they go with the populist questions and probably all use the same poll tables for info. Governments never release announcement details early but they are often "leaked"
Were all the empty seats telling us they were all on holiday at the same time? Not paid by the hour, obviously!!!!?
Lazy bastard's - there has effectively been no functioning Parliament for 8 weeks through one of the gravest crises the UK has ever faced. Then the Government announces tax rates cut for the richest! The UK is an undemocratic, crypto-Fascist basket case!
I'm going to go ahead and state that it's probably not a good sign that my PC's taskbar is panicking. It keeps warning me about shares diving and the pound tanking. I've got absolutely no add-ons related to either.
I think it's fairly clear the tories have given up on the next GE. Just a case of rinsing the country as much as possible for themselves and their rich mates for the next two years. The plan is probably to accept Labour will be in power until 2029, then plan for Tories to get back in after that.
Remember how, a few years ago, Hillary Mantel dared break with the party line and state that Katy Macbeth is nothing but a battery hen who hides behind a fake smile? Anyway, Hillary Mantel died suddenly...
I think that they're trying to push through as much insane **** as possible early. Then the media will try to make Labour completely radioactive again nearer to any election. If Thick Lizzy and Kwasimodo are still looking like they'll lose, then they'll get the boot. Probably replace them with Priti Patel or some equivalent fruitcake and claim another fresh start.
That was the thing about when Truss was trying to make up her cabinet: several people, off the top of my head Mordaunt and (I believe) Javid, ruled themselves out so that they can claim to have not been involved with any potential catastrophic failure so they would be a fresh face to shout about Nicola Sturgeon I mean, did Mordaunt's leadership campaign do anything other than rant about Sturgeon to the point it got weird...?
