Following on from a recent discussion about the current state of The Met (on the Bill Nick Thread), today sees an interesting article in The Guardian... https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...-supervisors-missing-wrongdoing-says-watchdog There's an awful lot of truth in here about lack of resources, experience, time to improve and one hopeless restructure after another hopeless, failed restructure. However, the suggestion that... “I’m not sure that the senior leadership understood quite how deep the problems were and what their role was in improving things.” ...that's ****ing laughable to many and insulting and infuriating to anyone who knows anything about the issue. If the Commissioner and his/her deputies didn't realize WTF was going on with departures, numerous recruiting problems, falling numbers and resource, falling performance, etc., what exactly are they being employed to do? They knew but refused to rock the boat with those above them...it's that simple...and when the staff who know better leave, everything's going to get a whole lot worse...despite of (possibly because of) the meaningless soundbites of Lynn Owen and Mark Rowley.
**** me, he's bringing up those bloody emails again... Just in time for... https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/sep/21/donald-trump-mar-a-lago-records-hold-lifted
How stupid would someone have to be to watch that and think it makes sense? If a President can declassify something just by thinking it, then he can also reclassify it the same way. You declassified it all? Biden reclassified it all as soon as he took over. No proof required, apparently.
It's not just the Met, Brian. There is a similar picture in most Forces. Not unsurprisingly, one of the worst 'offenders' is Surrey (now paired with Sussex) - and you just have to look at the career paths of Owens, Rowley plus previous CC Nick Ephgrave to understand why... All have happily sold their souls at the altar of various Tory Home Secretaries in the interest of their own career development. Not one of them prepared to stand up for the Service and personnel they were responsible for. Or indeed the public they were meant to protect.
The government’s austerity policy is coming home to roost. Public services were run down; now nothing works. And it will cost huge sums to make any of them remotely functional again. So money is just being wasted trying to paper over many, many cracks in dysfunctional systems. NHS, local authorities , police and courts, transport, housing - you name it. A pennies wise, pounds foolish government, experts in false economies.
The Torygraph is adamant that this ERG puppet is going to get us the Jonestown deal we want More copium than the Emiroids
There’s no doubt their policy was deliberate but even the voters they rely on are adversely affected by failings in healthcare, policing, council services etc. Hopefully as things get ever more apocalyptic, they will continue to shoot themselves in the foot and get voted out. Polls show them 10 points behind Labour at present. Even the dumbest, most ardent xenophobes must now realise Brexit was a lame idea too.
It wasn't True Holy Brexit, though. Johnson was the false messiah and Truss will lead the faithful to the sunlit uplands.
Deliberate misspeak or just proving himself to be am incompetent and failing orator? Or a mix of both?
Here's a question which no one seems to be picking up on. How come when Labour announced their plans for dealing with the cost of living crisis by freezing the price cap, the news media went into full swing claiming it wasn't targeted and benefited the rich when it should focus only on helping the poor, and yet when Truss pinches the same plan, not one news outlet is saying the same or even raising it when questioning her or her cronies? And why is it that nobody has asked Truss the most basic question when it comes to lifting the cap on banker bonuses - the question being, how exactly will having more bankers in this country turbo charge the economy? What the fck will they do that can't be done with the bankers we already have?
The only things Trump did in 4 years was give billionaires tax breaks while he pissed off other countries....except Russia,China,North Korea and the "Swordies!"
I think she is probably over reacting to all the anti-Brexit diatribe that all the banks and top bankers would flee after Brexit
Tbf they probably will once she takes away the bonus caps, as the lure of high basic wages on the continent will be far more appealing. It's what you could call the freedoms that brexit has allowed us - to hit ourselves over the head with a spade, in the hands of morons like her
So you think top bankers will flee to the continent for a higher basic salary when (if they are good enough) they can double their salary or more with bonuses?
That is a rhetorical question I would imagine. I think we all know why there is no media scrutiny of this Government and it's policies.....
