If they had literally any nous they would have demanded a bunch of conditions for the alternative vote referendum (the one referendum under Cameron which was legally binding...) to guarantee that the Tories wouldn't publicly torpedo the whole thing right out of the gate which they predictably did, but instead they couldn't get into bed with the Tories fast enough since that's what Lib Dems have long done in local government so it came naturally to them and they never considered maybe getting anything out of it - which is why they lost 80% of their seats in the 2015 election

Luckily they learned their lesson and didn't do anything stupid like parachute in defecting Tories or defected Red Tories into key swing seats in 2019...

The Liberals held the balance of power and declined to use it. They are to blame because the Tories simply behaved like Tories. Yes naïve and VERY shortsighted from the Liberals, their fence sitting bit all of us. If we did have proportional representation there would not be such a need for Scottish Independence.

Agree with all of that. I think Brown was a factor - who would want to do a deal with him? He was incompetent. LibDem Clegg was just a muppet.
Scotland really does not need to be part of the UK any more - I think their independence is just a matter of time whatever happens in England.

Many of us (wrongly) 'agreed with Nick' in the run in to the 2010 election.
Clegg said the right things and I certainly thought he would at least try to keep the Tories under control.
With hindsight - and his career path since supports this - it is clear he was always a stooge, as corrupt and self-interested as the Tories his own Party should have been influencing.

The LibDems were almost wiped out as a result. He didn't give a **** it turns out!

Clegg should have taken up the guitar and grown his hair. I hope I see Scottish Independence but I worry because it should be so obvious, yet loads of Scots don't get it.

I took up the guitar (badly) and grew my hair - but that was in the Sixties.
Big Yin did it well - sort of.

He went the other way and gave up The Humblebums and the banjo/guitar put on his banana boots and talked his way to fame and fortune.

For those that don't know, Nick Clegg joined Facebook in 2018 after losing his seat the year before.
He does PR and lobbying on their behalf and lies his arse off constantly.
At least he's consistent, I guess.

His job mainly consists of trying to sell people on the knockoff of Playstation Home and dodging questions about Zuckwit stealing people's data or promoting right-wing content
