Are people worried about travel, malls, and gatherings after all the recent deadly attacks by lunatics on the so called soft targets?
We tend to fly alot but my wife now has fears about going to airports and hates it when my son go out in the evening to concerts and such.
Anybody else worried?

When it's your time to go it's your time to go. No point avoiding things you enjoy on the off chance a lunatic is their that day.
Concerned but not worried to the point of not doing things.
I do, however, try and stay alert in public places.
If I'm going to be killed in that way, I'd rather have a go rather than just roll over.
You're still much more likely to be killed on the road than die in a terrorisk atack!
1713 folk died on the roads in 2012. Lot less in terror related.incidents.
Keep up with normal life otherwise they win but eyes peeled and alert all the time.

Think that's how they want you to feel........carrying on as normal is the thing to do otherwise they win.
As I've worked at Heathrow Airport for nearly 30 years I'm probably a bit blasé about it all and think what will be will be. Sadly, as Mrs Staines works with me in the same department, the chances are that at least one of us will be working if anything happens here.....but never felt overly concerned.
All through the IRA bombings in the 70's the same philosophy applies today, if I'm going to get splattered I hope it is quick. Not something I lose sleep over.

Absolutely right.
However, it is sensible to be aware of your surroundings when out and about in shopping centres etc.
Anything out of the ordinary
should be your cue to take evasive action.
I tend to sit in restaurants with a good view of the entrances and always work out an escape route.
If it happens these things may just save your life.
I'm usually with one or both of my sons in Westfield for example and their safety is my main concern.
I don't find that this attitude ruins my enjoyment, but I suppose the current situation tends to take the edge off said enjoyment.
We can't change what we do or the terrorist will have won. The chance of serious injury or death from a terrorist act is far lower than many things we accept as part and parcel of day to day life.
If the media gave a terrorist or nutter incident the same amount of publicity as a fatal car crash (not much), we might not have this heightened sense of concern.

That's absolutely fair enough.
I still maintain that there is a heightened risk in major cities these days and I prefer to at least try to be prepared.
One way that many people die in these terrorist attacks is, having survived what the initial onslaught is, they freeze with shock (understandably) and don't do enough to save themselves.

As someone whose job takes me into airports on an almost daily basis I have to say I rarely give it any thought. After the Paris airport attack I was surprised that there didn't appear to be any change in visible security at Heathrow in the following days and I have to say I agree with those who say 'when your number is up'.
I personally think if something does happen it will be in a busy street area such as Oxford Street where shoppers and commuters often pack the area out, particularly in the late afternoon rush...

I wasn't commenting on your specific post, Col - (the one regarding exit routes, etc.). It just happened to be the post before mine, that's all. What we mustn't do is stay at home cowering behind the sofa just because we've scared ourselves silly that every brown-skinned, bearded man with a rucksack wants to hurt random people in public spaces. Normal life needs to continue.
And yes, I feel very exposed driving a car without my seatbelt on...
