Lots of interesting reaction internationally at Johnson's job. Mainly stunned silence followed by laughter from politicians and diplomats who then gather themselves and try to say something statesmanlike whilst smirking. The foreign media much less forgiving. Great start, he hasn't even opened his mouth yet.

Good that that useless ****er Hunt has gone, hopefully they will settle the Junior Doctors fiasco quickly and cleanly now. Morgan gone yippee. Hope the odious Nick Gibb junior education minister goes with her. Gove gone, that's what misunderstanding Machiavelli and having Lady Macbeth As a wife gets you. Back to your journalism and think tanks sunshine. Whittingdale, one cringeworthy sexual story too far.

Interesting BBC language - Morgan, Witless and Hunt all leaving the government, but Gove was sacked (as was Osborne according to other reports). Does this mean Morgan et al asked not to be considered, or is Auntie allowing a tinsy weeny bit of bias to creep into their language?

Morgan said she was 'disappointed' not to get a job, showing a startling lack of insight, so she at least was sacked too.

Bias would be "Michael Gove was sacked, given the elbow, chewed up and spat out before being shat upon". Technically.

Could have been worse. Gove could have been given a job under Boris - Middle East Envoy, possibly?

I didn't pick up on that and I'm afraid I don't have the foggiest in answer to your question. Do you think that Boris will be known by the acronym BOJOFO from now on?

Just seen some people on Andrew Neill's politics show trying to work out what Johnson's role is with Europe and trade stripped out. One bloke concluded "making the Americans laugh and trying not to offend the Chinese too much.........whether Boris will manage this remains to be seen" Even Francis Maude couldn't work it out, except that it's tricky to plot against your boss when you are on a plane to Malaysia. Farcical

Diplomats are open laughing at the UK, I can only think it's a favour for not standing and backing May in the contest, or because he has many "Leave" supporters and she wants to keep them onside. She must assume it won't be long before he makes a gaffe and be sacked - but with all the eyes of the world on us at the moment we need a grown up as Foreign Secretary not this clown without make up.

The Brexit team being leavers makes sense, as any deal the Remainers would make would be decried as a sell out regardless of what they return with. Surprised at the Year Zero approach to the reshuffle though - she only has a majority of 12 so she cant afford to annoy too many ex-ministers.

It was Guy Verhofstadt who was the Belgian PM 1999-2008. I think he's an MEP now.

Theresa May has three jobs: Run the country, Negotiate with the EU, and win the next election (whenever that is). Her party is split on Europe, and a lot of colleagues have said some pretty nasty stuff about each other. So before she can do any of those three things, May has to bring the party back together. Sharing out jobs in the new cabinet is the obvious first step in that process. I'm surprised at certain changes, but not at the way she's going about this.

The Tories are renowned for making up and getting on with the job.
 
I am going against the majority on here and (the World) and believe that Boris will probably do okay in that job.
Not matter what people say about him he is, charismatic and liked by many politicians. Don't be fooled by his 'Buffon image', he actually is a very clever bloke. May will keep him in line.

Its interesting seeing patronage at work, this is all very similar to the way Monarchs and noblemen organised their courts in medieval times. Except now it's on Twitter. All based on loyalties, neutralising threats, prospective blame transferral (if Brexit is ****ed up - hey I gave it to the Brexiters to handle! NHS gets even worse - Hunt has had ages to sort it out, before my time!). Just about anything other than competence comes into play. Hunt ffs.

Hunt spells his name wrong. He really is a twunt. Caused a lot of upset in NHS.
In the old days Ministers used to walk up to downing street from Parliment and walk back again. Now it's done by text or email. Saves much embarrassment if you have got sacked.
