I don't think it's immoral but I do think it encourages 'avoidance' and the threshold should be very high. VAT is a more immoral tax because it is not progressive in any sense.

I don't understand why so many people get so exercised about inheritance tax when it only impacts on 4% of the population (that's the recipients I guess, as the dead people would no longer be part of the population). The thing about the money already having been taxed is arguable anyway - the dead person isn't being taxed, it's the recipient, and quite often the inheritance will have come from property value appreciation that has not been taxed anyway. VAT on the other hand is paid by all of us, is regressive, and is very definitely a tax on already-taxed income - but no one seems to bat an eyelid.

The City of London doesn't want a Brexit because it will be very bad for business. If it was otherwise and the City would thrive outside the EU - we'd have left a long time ago, and they wouldn't have bothered with a vote.
Whatever your view on bankers merchant or otherwise, they are a major contributor to the UK economy. Anything that weakens the financial sector weakens us all.

VAT is seen as different from other forms of taxation because it's a consumer driven tax. You don't buy, you don't pay. I say that not to suggest it is right, but as a reason why it is viewed the way it is.

The City does not speak with one voice on Brexit. And a good proportion of those multinational companies that support Remain, also claimed it would be a disaster if the UK stayed out of the Euro.

Looks like a very interesting programme on channel 4 Wednesday night at 10pm.
"What British Muslims Really Think".
Should be enlightening to discover how they view many issues.
I'll be back after it's aired.

Yes, really important survey carried out by Trevor Phillips which will show that liberal attitudes here are leading to major potential problems in some areas of British Muslim society. It should be illuminating, and it's helpful that the survey is being carried out by someone who is a recent immigrant and black, which will hopefully avoid claims of racial prejudice.

Seems half of British Muslims think that homosexuality should be illegal.

Maybe we should ban Islam instead.

Considering the vast majority of muslims living in the UK originate from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Somalia, not quite sure what this has to do with the Brexit vote or the EU.

I was going to post something about the poll/documentary on the politics thread, but Col beat me to it on this one.

I wasn't sure which one to put it on.
However, immigration is a big part of the debate and their are millions of Muslims flooding into Europe.
Their views will presumably be similar to those in the programme.
I'll watch it before passing comment.

I think human beings are entitled to travel around this planet to look for a life that suits them best and that's all it is.

Colin millions flooding into isn't the words I agree with

The U.K. Is very overcrowded and dis functional What's the next step if we exit Europe to thin out the population to make the UK work?

I very much doubt if modern life can transform IMO

in the Government propaganda leaflet, 'our borders are more secure in the EU'. One begs the question, if the conservative estimate of 1,000,000 illegals in this country, managed to gain entry while we're in, how many would there have been if we were out?

That's a big number. I presume you have a source for it?
