Takes 15 seconds - press the search tab, press 'more' when you are there, put Turkey in keywords and search your own user name. As I said most are on this thread.

I can only assume you've spent time in a Turkish prison. I'm sure that would put you off them.

Not prison, but I did survive a showing of Midnight Express. I have no problem at all with the good Turkish people. It's simply the massive increase in numbers of those entitled to come here. And recent history shows we are number one destination. You have to factor these in when assessing the future of the EU and the implications for the UK

Recent history of Daily Mail headlines.

For future reference here's the list of candidate nations. Sorry it's the BBC but the tone is neutral. 10-15 years if ever for Turkey. The world will look very different by then, and judging by the accession criteria we should be kicked out.

That data is over a year old. Turkey is holding the EU by its sphericals over mass migration from the South, and it's forecast to get worse next year, and beyond. There's already talk that the best way of securing borders is to take in Turkey, since Greece is finding this impossible

That's what I found, but I couldn't believe that that was what Goldie could be basing his statement on

Why ever not? It sets out hard facts, and unlike Stan's BBC division on European wannabe's that's been superceded by one of biggest diasporas the world has ever seen, history can't be reinvented.

If you don't think Germany and the UK are the top on migrants wish lists, Strolls, tell me where? Scandinavia must take smaller numbers

I wouldn't presume to know about migrants' wish lists Goldie, but statistics about destinations 'over time' are just not good enough data upon which to make such judgements, it seems to me.

Surely the impact of the diaspora has hit the UK much less than several other European countries, as so far we have only taken a few hundred? Popularity of destination might better be measured by % growth in the migrant population. Your website tells us that the UK doesn't make the top 25 on that measure, though Ireland, Norway and Italy do.

Truth is the stats don't matter, as long as the perception that you and many others hold remains in place we have an issue to deal with. And I don't think the perception is going to change. So we need a policy that the majority agree on which probably means leaving the EU and deliberately and consciously doing less than our neighbours to help displaced people. I'll be in the minority, but that's democracy.

I'll take a bet that Turkey won't be a member of the EU in five years, or ten if you prefer. Name the stakes. How about you buy me a season ticket for the 2020-21 season, when we are in our shiny new stadium ( about as likely as Turkey joining the EU)?

Stop the war?

I noticed we are number 4 in the world based on the percentage increase between 2010 and 2013. We went from 566K to 736K. An increase of 30%. For a country of less than 5m people, 766K international migrants is an awful lot. It must be close to 1m now as those figures are only to 2013. 1m migrants would be 20% of our entire population. Our outward emigration is also quite high still even though our economy grew 7% year on year.

I tell you what, let's just bury our heads in the sand and pretend that immigration isn't a problem concerning local services, terrorism, religious ghettos or simply the 'feel' of our Country.
Sweep it all under the carpet and I'm sure everything will be fine (NOT!!!!).

The relevance of the diaspora is not in relation to the UK's refugee intake, but the likelihood that this will increase the chances of Turkey joining the EU.

The EU is in a blue funk over the millions moving up from Africa to Europe. Greece cannot control its southern borders. Apparently Turkey can control numbers coming in, and already the EU are shovelling money at Turkey, and Turkey is saying, no our price is full membership.

The numbers coming are not receding with winter coming. Next summer could see even greater numbers moving. Turkey has a key negotiating card with a panicking EU leadership
