Perhaps, but much less likely than the Israelis? So you would accept other countries telling the UK what type of power it can generate/weapons it can have at it's disposal? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for negotiated control of nasty stuff, but it doesn't sit right with notions of 'sovereignty'. As the Greeks are finding out in another way.

I agree that the Israelis are a worry, but, as I just intimated to Stroller, they aren't likely to hurt me or mine.
I realise that this isn't a fair attitude to have, but I don't really care. I'd rather we try to limit the "nasty stuff" that potential nutters have than just allow everyone a free for all because it "doesn't sit right" with your sense of fair play.
This World is ****ed up big time and fairness just doesn't come into it!

I feel sorry for the Greeks and I think the ordinary Greek people have been painted unfairly in a bad light, but I'm not sure the comparison is the same as a potential nuclear war.

Israel is pretty safe anyway. If another country's weapons move an inch towards them they'll be blown off the planet by the US so it's all good.
Obama didn't do them any favours today, and it's likely the US will cosy up to Iran in an anti IS move. Netenyahu was mightily pissed off, Iran is still enemy threat number 1 to him. It's a bizarre alliance, the US fundamentalist right and the Israelis.

Fair enough. It's not my sense of fair play, it the completely unconscious hypocrisy of it that bewilders me. The Greek example was about the increasing meaninglessness of the concept of sovereignty. Whether we like it or not (and I certainly have no time for medieval theocracies like Iran) Iran is a sovereign state.

Just as terrifying as the concept of the Iranians having nuclear weapons is the fact that Pakistan, verging on being a rogue state, already has. Presumably because we (the US and its allies) thought that somehow or other they were on our side and didn't think to stop them. ****ed up is an apt description mate.

It wasn't intentionally antagonistic. Its just an honest question. Not many westerners give a two bob bit about Israel other than some lunatic evangelical Christians and a small cabal of Jews on Wall Street.

I'm sorry mate but that's just the way it is. Folk will give you all the platitudes you want to hear but they're talking out their ringo stars

I'll give your post more respect than it deserves and leave you with this link, albeit probably not the most reliable source but I suggest you stop being such a bigot. For a country the size of Wales it's done a hell of a lot in its short history.

Well done for trawling back through however many pages to find what was quite clearly a joke and probably wasn't very far from the truth anyway. Not quite on a par with pondering whether anyone would care if one of the world's most advanced countries was destroyed in the morning and that's before you get onto the fact anything to do with Israel will provoke a lot of opinion.

I completely agree about Pakistan.
I also agree that it is hypocrisy to try to limit a sovereign state in anything it wishes to do.
For someone as hot on sovereignty as me, this isn't lost on me.
As I say.......it's a ****ed up world.

Of course it was a joke (although not really as you've just said there!) and a funny one at that. But I don't understand then how you can call someone else a bigot when the mood takes you. Lighten up FFS.

I don't know why you're freaking out over Israel anyway. You're an Englishman, not an Israeli

Call me a cynic Swords but you've never come across as the most enlightened person.

I actually don't particularly like Israel or Israelis from the time I've spent there and knowing plenty that live here but I appreciate it's a country that will take me in in the unlikely event Jews are persecuted and driven out of Europe. Unlikely of course but you really never know in this crazy world.

More importantly, it's a country of huge significance in a lot of ways. Technologically, culturally. You can see from that link I posted the world would be a worse place without it.

I think you might be correct Dr WATSon. I am however trying to remedy that. Currently I am studying the eugenic work of Professor Richard Lynn. I suggest his book The Chosen People: A Study of Jewish Intelligence and Achievement which ties in with the thesis in your link.

The Professor finds that the darker the skin colour of an individual, the less intelligent they are. North and west Africans and Australian Aborigines are apparently the stupidest people on the Planet, lessered only by "Pygmies and Bushmen". (Apparently the Europeans would have pipped the Asians but the Irish dragged the average down 30 points)

"Lynn's meta-analysis lists the average IQ scores of East Asians (105), Europeans (99), Inuit (91), Southeast Asians and Amerindians each (87), Pacific Islanders ( 85), Middle Easterners (including South Asians and North Africans) (84), East and West Africans (67), Australian Aborigines (62) and Bushmen and Pygmies (54)"

Professor Lynn advocates an authoritarian regime to enforce good breeding along with a free market system and social liberalism. I am in two minds as to whether this social construct would yield a positive dividend or would it displace the other important mental attribute colloquially known as wisdom?

I just can't tell, Wats

That's actually quite interesting. I've got my knee surgery today and not much to do while I recover from it for 2 weeks so might check it out.
