I suspect that the building companies already have their projects lined up for the next 4 to 5 years and that they'll have no spare capacity or the workforce to increase the number of houses built any time soon...... this would apply equally to a tory or a labour government so be prepared to be disappointed.... it ain't happening any time soon.....

Look how fast they get working when told the parcels of land they have been sitting on for years will be taken away from them.

And I might have mentioned the 261,000 homes that are sitting empty, no planning permissions required.

The empty properties should be subject to CPO's from local councils, but again we all know how long that takes..... there's also a question of the councils having the will power to actually do that.....

I suspect that you are right - the limiting factor could well be the lack of a workforce, both numbers and skills, although the finance could well be available, everything else being equal:

The answer is good wages for nationals. If the UK needs limited immigration thereafter, that can be looked at on a case by case basis

Yes, these should face compulsory purchase orders. Another thing which could be utilised is the vast amount of empty office space in our cities. London is estimated to have 31m square feet of empty office space - the equivalent of 60 Gherkins - and much of this could and should be used for housing. The working from home culture which stemmed from lock-down should be encouraged and extended, freeing up even more space which could be utilised.

It’s not a crime to squat in non residential buildings as long as you don’t damage them.

It’s also not a crime to remain in a property that you have entered with the landlord’s permission, even if you have stoped paying rent.

It’s also not a crime to remain in a property that you have entered with the landlord’s permission, even if you have stoped paying rent.

In London they are frequently rented out, I have several friends living in office blocks. Totally legal and considerably cheaper rent.

There are lots of cheap/quick options to provide housing. It's not all going to be built in nature reserves. I just wish it was council housing rather than privately owned, but something happening is better than nothing.

You’re right, not a secret, but most people can be forgiven for not knowing that Reform UK Party Ltd is not quite the same as other parties. It will never see the infighting, factions etc that plague its competitors because it is essentially owner operated.

I wonder how that works in practice? I guess the 4 other Reform MPs are in a sense Nige’s employees, but they are paid for (like Nige’s €10k a month MEP pension which he can pick up in a couple of years) by the taxpayer.
